Senior School Report

It is nearly the end of Term 1. The Year 11 students have started to settle and become more comfortable being part of the Senior School and are working productively and effectively.

The Sub School has interviewed students and in some cases have had parent meetings regarding Progress Reports. These reports are continuously being used to monitor students at risk, and identify students who are ready for further extension in their studies.

The Year 12 Progress Reports were informative for both students and parents as they closely monitor individual students’ progress on a regular basis – reporting on formative tasks as well as the SACs.

Parents can access all reports through Compass.

Co-ordinators are continuing to conduct class visits to encourage punctuality to classes. It is essential for students to organise their time and be punctual to classes so that everyone can make the most of their class time and disruptions are minimised.

Co-ordinators will be checking diaries to make sure students have made appointment times for the Parent Teacher Interviews which are held on Wednesday 28 March.

There were assemblies held on Wednesday 14 March. The Year 12 VCAL students presented information about ‘National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence’ and the activities that were going to run on Friday 16 March.  Year 9 Advance students spoke about ‘Earth Hour’.

There was also a presentation about students reflecting on their Progress Report

  • What have they done well?
  • Where do they need to improve?
  • Are they on track to achieving their goals for the year?

These conversations can continue at home with their families.

Nicole LAI - 12B, Laura VAN KEULEN - 12E and Thinh LUONG  - 12B shared their experience at the ‘Earthwatch’ challenge that they were involved in last year. Alana NGUYEN - 12C spoke about her experience at the ‘National Youth Science Forum’. These students were so passionate about the programs they were involved in that they wanted to encourage other students to apply.

We also had some awards for our senior students.

  • Tinh-Tinh PHAM   11D – Modelling our school values
  • Steven TO 12D – Modelling our school values
  • Christina SAID 12Y – Leadership
  • Toby COLLINS-SMITH 11A –  Outstanding achievement in Swimming
  • Jessica JANCEVA 11B – Outstanding achievement in Swimming
  • Holly ZIESSLER 11E – Outstanding achievement in Swimming
  • Phillip HOANG  12B - Outstanding achievement in Swimming.

The Year 12 VCAL classes ran lunchtime activities for the ‘National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence’. They aimed to have 1000 cranes made to hang up in the library to display compassion and support of the cause and as a reminder of our school values. A BBQ , postcard writing and more crane making also took place. Well done to all involved. They also gave out ‘Anti Bullying’ bands to all the senior school students as a symbol of how we do not tolerate any type of bullying at St Albans SC.

Just a reminder that all ‘Learning Tasks’ and the ‘Students Weekly Planners’ are accessible through Compass for parents/guardians to see what tasks are being done in various subjects during the semester.

The After School Study Program is running smoothly in the Library on Thursday after school for one hour. All students are welcome to attend this group. Students who are behind with work will be required to attend, as directed by their teachers. Study enhancement programs for both Year 11 & 12 students will commence soon.

The Lady Northcote excursion for all Year 11 students is on Friday 20 April. Students who don’t attend, are required to be at school.

On Thursday 3  May all Year 11 VCE students will be attending the VCE Careers Expo held at Caulfield.  This is an important event for students as there are representatives for different universities and TAFEs that provide students with information about different courses.

All VCAL students will be attending the VCAL Expo in Wednesday 9 May at Lakeside Convention Centre.

Parents need to log onto Compass to give permission for their child to attend the expos.

Our SRC continues to work tirelessly to improve the social and physical environment of our college. The Year 12 Captains are the backbone of our SRC and they attend numerous events to promote the work we do in the college. They are now preparing for the ‘Soccer Challenge’ – Year 11s v Year 12s – which is being held at 1.30 pm on the oval on Monday 26 March.  They are also preparing to facilitate the Student Forums which will be held early Term 2.

Many thanks to the parents who contact us when their child is absent for any reason. This is of great assistance to the Year Level Coordinators, as we will call home regularly if there are any unexplained absences.

The Case Management process has begun and the attendance, achievement and individual needs of all our students continues to be monitored closely.

Please contact us on 9366 2555 if you have any queries or concerns about the progress of your child.
