Music Notes

Welcome
Nicole Bull, Academic Dean of Performing Arts
Welcome to Term 2. We look forward to another term of fun, entertainment and an abundance of performance opportunities for our talented music students.
Jazz and Blues Cabaret
On Friday 23 March, our talented students performed an array of musical jazz and blues items. Stage Band, Concert Band, Dolce Quartet, Orchestra, Jazz and Blues ensemble, Contemporary Choir, Kadences, Krooners and Soloists entertained parents, friends and staff throughout the evening.
It was wonderful to see so many students full of enthusiasm performing in front of a full house.
Special thanks to our Music Captains, Harry Millikan and Ashleigh McMaster, Choir Captain, Rachael Martin and Drama Captain, Sasha Vuling, who helped to organise and run the evening.
Also thanks to Zander von Stiegler for assisting with light and sound.
Junior String Ensemble
This term we will be introducing the Junior School String Orchestra into our co-curricular program.
All students learning a string instrument are strongly encouraged to participate in this group. Beginners will be able to join after recommendation from their String teacher.
The Junior School String Orchestra will rehearse every Wednesday lunchtime, commencing Wednesday, 2 May in room PVC7.
The orchestra will be directed by Head of Strings, Ms Barbara Geerars and assisted by Ms Evelyn Searle. Further information will be emailed to all parents of students who are currently learning a string instrument.
Students learning outside of school are most welcome to join. Please email the Music Department at music.admin@kilvington.vic.edu.au if you have any queries.
Marimba Mania
A brand new music ensemble is starting this term, open to students in Years 4 to 6.
Members will perform pieces in a range of styles on tuned percussion instruments, including xylophones, marimbas and glockenspiels.
It is an exciting opportunity to learn new skills, be part of a team and play great music. Students do not need to have prior experience, but it is well suited to any student who is enrolled in piano or percussion lessons.
The first rehearsal will be on Monday, 30 April at 1.30 – 2.00pm in room PVC4. A sign-up sheet is in the Junior School Music room (J3) (places are limited).

They will be held every week this term, except Friday 11 May.
Solos, duets, trios, choirs and ensembles are all welcome. These soirees offer young musicians, singers and drama students the opportunity to perform in a low-key supportive environment, whilst developing valuable performing skills and confidence.
The soiree form is up on the Music Notice Board for students/teachers to fill in. Please inform Ms Carmel Slater if students require an accompanist.
Star of the week
Thank you to Gemma Webb from Year 12 for performing the last post at our ANZAC Day services so beautifully.
