Upper Primary

PDJ- It was terrific to welcome parents and grandparents into our class during Education Week. The students were delighted to join in with our visitors to play some exciting games. Some students played an environment sorting game placing pictures into either a compost, plastic or paper bin. Other students played a Maths Superhero game with Marvel tokens as the prizes.

The highlight of the morning however, was presenting our Environment dioramas on the ‘Australian Bush’, ‘The Ocean’, ‘The Rainforest’ and ‘The Beach’. The students worked diligently on their group dioramas, researching information and creating realistic flora and fauna.

It was great fun to enjoy the yummy, healthy fruit platter together for morning tea.

PSP- This term, Upper Primary went on an excursion to Edendale Farm. This excursion was based around our Integrated Unit; Me and My Environment.

Students had the opportunity to explore and take part in different activities to consolidate their learning from the unit. We looked at how we can save water and energy, how we recycle and we even got the chance to create our very own calico bags using flowers and leaves from the garden.

It was a great day.

PKO- In week 2 of term PKO went on camp to Yarra Junction. Following are some student responses of our experience.

PJF- In PJF we are learning all about recycling, we are enjoying using the Discovery Centre to explore this topic and extend our learning. Last week we made recycled paper using newspaper, cardboard and water.  Our excursion to Edendale Farm also taught us ways we can save water around the house.

PCC- The students in PCC have been learning about how to take care of their environment by putting rubbish in the bin. Rubbish which is dropped on the ground may end up in our rivers and oceans.   The students did a project about animals that are affected by people littering and we created a mural in our room.  They have also learned about the problems associated with plastic shopping bags and what happens to rubbish when it is placed in their bins at home. It is great to see how enthusiastic the students are about keeping our rivers clean and animals healthy.

PCO- On May 22nd PCO had their bags packed ready for camp to Blackwood. The students came into school feeling very excited! We packed up the school bus and by 10am we were on the road headed to camp. Once we arrived we quickly unloaded the bus placed our bags into our rooms and we met our very friendly guide Tony. There was no time to chat as we were off to the high and low ropes. They weren’t kidding when they said high ropes…they were the highest I have ever seen! All the students were so brave and had a turn. The next day we went to Sovereign Hill, that was definitely the highlight, we got to pan for gold, go on a horse and cart ride, see how lollies are made, play bowling and go on a mind tour. We were feeling exhausted by the end, a delicious meal at the hotel was just what we needed. Our last day came too quickly, many of the students wanted to stay longer. We were very busy in the morning packing up the bus to head back to school, but before that we got to do archery, what a great last activity to finish off the camp. We were sad to leave camp but were very excited to see our loved ones that we missed!

PJT- This term PJT has been attending swimming classes. The instructors are working on the important skills of water awareness, water safety and skill development. All students have enjoyed the activities related to their specific skills. Many students have shown great improvement in their skill level and have been very proud of their efforts. Our instructors, Libby, Paul and Scott, do a great job of making the students feel comfortable in the water as well as having fun while learning.

Occupational Therapy

This term, some students in Upper Primary have been involved in a yoga program with our OT, Jenna. This program is assisting with developing students’ body strength, balance, flexibility, motor planning skills, body awareness and self-regulation.
