2017 Music Camp

On Friday, 28th April, 50 students travelled to Urban Camp in Parkville for their annual music camp.

They got stuck into rehearsing straight away, depending on if they were in the choir, band, strings or our a’capella show choir.

Saturday began with yoga with Julia Williams before a day of intensive rehearsal. Students deserved a well earned break, walking to Lygon Street for dinner, before returning to Urban Camp for “MGC’s Got Talent” Quest.

And what talent was displayed, with 16 acts, featuring soloists, duets, trios and quartets! The evening culminated with Sarah Richards teaching everyone an indigenous dance and the band jamming. Students were still playing at 10.30 at night- what energy!

We had time for a final rehearsal on Sunday morning before parents and friends arrived for the concert at 11am.

Our a’capella choir opened the concert with their stunning rendition of “Muma Who Bore Me”, and a sneak peek of their work in progress, “Hide and Seek”.

Our Choir then sang “Colours of the Wind”, “Seasons of Love” and were accompanied by the strings for “The Water is Wide”, arranged by Wen Chin.

The strings then played Vivaldi’s “Autumn” and Tchaikovsky’s “Neopolitan Dance”.

Then it was over to the band for their performances of the Looney Tunes theme, Asturias, Albeniz and Across the Track Blues,  featuring various students’ improvising.

We look forward to sharing the result of all their hard work at our Vocal Showcase on Tuesday, 27th June, and our String Soiree on Wednesday, 28th June. (Tickets via Trybooking)

Thank you to all our parents for their support and to all our wonderful students who were such a delight to work with.

A huge thank you to our music staff for giving up their weekend and for inspiring our music students:

Ellyce Calder, Wen Chin, Julia Williams & Tony Hicks.

We look forward to an even bigger and better Music Camp in 2018!

Regards,

Anne Corry
