BYOD

Bring Your Own Device
Would you expect a carpenter to complete a task without proper tools? I would imagine that the job would be not to standard, if able to be completed at all. Likewise, as parents and carers, we want to ensure our children have every opportunity to perform their task- as learners; to the best of their ability.
The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program has been developed with the natural progression from teacher centered learning to student centered learning. That students are allowed a range of platforms in which to present their work whilst developing their ICT skills and familiarity with programs and their functions. At Staughton College, the BYOD Program allows for student to use their own devices in the classroom. Devices must meet the following criteria:
- OS: Windows 7 or later
- Memory: 4 GB or larger
- Screen: 10 inch or larger
- Hard drive: 120GB or larger (for SSDs) and 500 GB or larger (for HDD).
NOTE: Smart phones are NOT an acceptable substitute for a BYOD.
It is an expectation of the school that students are equipt with the materials for all learning opportunities and the provision of a BYOD device is no exception.
Our students are digital natives; they have grown up in the digital age of instant information, innumerable opinions and news as it happens. Their future opportunities will involve or require skills developed by them as a student. Their lifestyle, now is digital based, as is much of our society. Together, both these skills as a student and a digital citizen can enhance your child’s potential.
