Kilvington’s art students, Sarah Godfrey, Year 10, and Sophia Zikic, Year 11, have been selected to take part in this wonderful project.
The 100 Portraits of Centenarians by Teenagers is an art exhibition which profiles one hundred of Melbourne's oldest residents through portraits painted by skilled teenage artists from local Melbourne secondary schools. These will then be displayed as part of the 2017 Victorian Seniors Festival in October.
Sarah and Sophia have visited their partnered centenarian and are currently in the early stages of producing their portrait artworks.

During their visit, Sarah and Sophia had the opportunity to get to know their centenarian through conversation reflecting their life and experiences, while sketching portraits of them in their environment.
Both girls will be producing one portrait each. They will also write a short biography of the centenarian to accompany their portrait.
Once completed, the centenarians will be invited to a series of viewings of the exhibition accompanied by family members and their artist. Following the closure of the exhibition, the portraits will be gifted to the centenarians and their families.
We will revisit Sarah and Sophia’s progress of this very special community project in the next coming weeks.

We recently ran a wonderful incursion in the Art Room for our Years 3 to 4 students. Amanda Cooper, the owner of 'Gallery for a Day', brought in her private collection of original artworks to showcase to the students.
Students had the opportunity to carefully examine many different original artworks in media ranging from watercolours, to printmaking, to collage to three-dimensional dioramas.
Amanda also talked about her experiences as a judge for the Children’s Book Council of Australia and gave some insights into this year’s winning books.
The children were absolutely enthralled and thoroughly enjoyed seeing artworks from books that they recognised.
