Assembly of Notables

Kathryn Schravemade, Head of Library and Digital Resourcing

Our Assembly of Notables program in Year 7 is a transdisciplinary unit that utilises a guided-inquiry approach and encourages students to take ownership over the direction of their learning.

This year our theme was ‘game-changers’, and students had to choose a 'notable' who had to be of good character and a game-changer in their field. As with many things this year, our Unit was faced with the challenge of evolving to fit a COVID-safe approach.

Over the course of term, students were encouraged to think like historians and conduct in-depth research about the life and influence of their chosen notable individual.

It was pleasing to see them put the literacy skills they had developed over the year into action, as they assessed the authority and validity of sources in their research.

Instead of the traditional ‘night of the notables’, students created a website about their notable which included a biography; a slideshow documenting key areas of influence; and a Ted Talk assessing the suitability of their notable as a game-changer.

The culmination of our Unit saw students dress as their notable, and conduct learning experiences with Junior School students in their classrooms as visiting ‘educators’.

Year 7 Toy Time project

The 2020 and 2021 Science and Digital Leaders recently gave awards to the best in each Year 7 class for their STEAM project, Toy Time.

Each group was judged on the quality of the toy, the use of scientific and technological ideas, the educational value of the toy and for teamwork. It was a very tough decision, so well done to one and all!

The Year 7 Student Choice award (overall winner!) was won by Marcel Krivonos, Sebastian Knight, James Starr and Harry Shanks.

Year 9 Emerge Week

Martine Walls, Dean of Character and Wellbeing Program

Development

Our 2021 Year 9 students began the 2021 Impact Program with a very successful Emerge Week. Students worked with Monash University and were introduced to social enterprise businesses by young and successful entrepreneurs.

They then worked in small groups to develop and pitch their ideas around solving complex social issues. The cohort also spent time building and enhancing connections through practical and fun activities. They began their first aid course and practiced safe train travel into Flinders Street Station. A fantastic way to kick off the new Program!

Virtual Art shows

It's our Years 3 and 4 students turn to show off their artistic talents with their virtual art show! Watch here

Our talented Year 5 and 6 students also share their work with us in their virtual art show. You can watch the show here.

Well done to all!
