2020 - What an unforgettable year
Jon Charlton, Principal
As 2020 closes on a truly unforgettable year, I am indeed grateful that our students and staff were able to return onsite and see the year out, particularly our Year 12 students. We have certainly missed seeing parents, grandparents and guardians on campus. We look forward to seeing you, hopefully not just from a distance, in the new year!
On Monday 30 Nov, we held our 2020 Celebration Night. While it was in a different format from previous years, I hope you were able to watch and celebrate our theme of ‘strength in community’; so apt. It was such a source of inspiration for me, and no doubt many others throughout this challenging year.
Celebration Night was also an opportunity to farewell our Class of 2020, of whom I am exceedingly proud. While their final year of school was not what they had imagined, I know there were opportunities for new learnings, reflection and growth, and I wish them every success with their exam results. I look forward to a proper graduation celebration in 2021!
For those of you who may not have been able to join us on Monday, you can watch the Celebration Night video here.
Significant highlights
While COVID dramatically impacted the School’s operations, I couldn’t be more pleased with the way students and staff embraced and contributed to the efficient delivery of our remote learning platform. We did indeed rise to the occasion, and feedback suggests that we did exceedingly well in limiting the negative impact on our students’ learning.
This year, to the delight of our ELC students, staff and families, we opened our new ELC playground. This, together with a new Junior School play space, completes our interactive ‘play precinct’ that runs along the Katandra Road boundary.
The newly refurbished Junior School and Administration wing is now complete and looks fantastic. Our Main Reception entry offers a contemporary and welcoming experience for our families and visitors. The new First Aid and Counselling spaces have been well received, as indeed have the upstairs classroom, breakout and conference spaces.
