Principal's Report

Congratulations to our fabulous 2019 VCE students!

Today we are over joyed and proud to share some statistics:

Our Dux achieved an ATAR of 99.85

30% of students achieved ATAR scores of 90 or above

53% of students achieved ATAR scores of 80 or above

70% of students achieved ATAR scores of 70 or above

16% of study scores above 40

Seven perfect study scores of 50 were attained in Legal Studies (2), Business Management, English, English as an Additional Language, Health and Human Development and Literature.

As we say each year, the ATAR does not define a young person, it is the work ethic, persistence and commitment that we celebrate.

On Tuesday 3 December, we held a memorial for Yasmin Wilson in the auditorium and on the banks of the ancient Birrarung. Yasmin’s mum, dad, grandmother, pet dog Dusty and close friends remembered her fondly. Whilst reflecting we asked our students to think on all that is good in life, to follow their passions and what they love and whatever gives them purpose, whether family, friends, travel, volunteering, study, the list is endless.

As always, please contact me if you need advice to support your child in any way.

The school continues to be a hive of activity for our students, whether on work experience, hosting assemblies, taking part in the Melbourne Women in Jazz Festival or Marine Biology Camp. The National Park Scheme continues and the magnificent work of our philanthropy team deserves to be celebrated. The Philanthropy Team lead by Ella Bichler and Scarlett Cuthbertson, supported by Ms. Claire Tudor  and our community have helped raise money and awareness for the Leukaemia Foundation, The RCD Foundation, World Vision, Ethiopiad, the Richmond Tutoring Program, Beanies for Brain Cancer, The Smith Family, L2R Dance, The Reach Foundation and the Victorian Women’s Refugee and Immigration Coalition.

On Tuesday 10 December, we welcomed 232 excited Year 6 students who will soon be students of Melbourne Girls’ College. Thank you to Ms. Tellefson, Ms. Miller and our teams of staff who ensured welcome, care, friendship and learning were at the centre of the day’s program. The day was followed by our final School Council meeting for the year. Sincere thanks to our President, Ms. Heather Pritchard, and the hard working Council members.

This week the Leadership Team met to finalise 2020 preparation for the professional learning design and coaching model. This intensive work is a foundation for the year ahead to ensure growth in learning and wellbeing for each student.

Finally, thank you for the many messages of support and concern for our students, staff and families over the past few weeks; we appreciate each one more than we can say.

Please enjoy a happy and safe holiday season and we look forward to learning and working with you in 2020!

Kind regards,

Karen
