Dear Collingwood College School Community,
Where did this term go? It only feels like yesterday we were welcoming our new preps and now look at them, full of confidence and knowing how to traverse every centimetre of our school!
It has been a very busy term with many camps and excursions across the primary school. Include class performances, the harvest festival, swimming sports, welcome picnic, school photos, walk for water day and secondary taster sessions to name a few, when combined with our outstanding learning program, it's certainly time for a little rest before starting all over again in Term 2.
At the end of the first week back next term we say farewell to April Jones (ES) and Charlotte Ghai (1/2) as they take leave to await the birth of their babies. I wish both women and partners all the best as they begin the next exciting phase of their lives. Thank you for all your efforts at Collingwood College and good luck. We look forward to seeing the new arrivals soon.
This afternoon we also say farewell to Veronica Backhouse as she starts a new chapter in her life and heads north for warmer weather and a new experience. We wish Veronica safe travelling and a fantastic adventure.
Katie Kligerman (Class 3) is also on leave for the duration of Term 2 undertaking an exciting travelling experience. We wish Katie all the best and look forward to seeing her back in Term 3.
We are still in the process of filling these positions but can assure you we will do so with the best calibre of teacher, with minimum disruption to student learning.
I hope everyone has a fantastic holiday break.
I'm very excited about the football returning. I'll leave on the following words.... GO CATS!!!

Dear Families and Carers,
I would like to thank you all for making this one of the best terms I have had at Collingwood College. I am constantly impressed with the level of engagement by students when I visit classrooms. This is in part to the great teachers and programs. It is also down to parents and carers promoting the value of education and our school at home. Thank you.
Our numbers are growing steadily. When you grow you sometimes wonder whether the things that you feel you are doing well might become a little stretched. Not in our school. We have improved attendance, especially in our year 11 and 12 Advisory programs. There are more students than ever staying behind on a regular basis to get help and support with their homework. Many students have been helping us increase our IT engagement by bringing along their own laptops. If you still wish to buy a notebook, please access Compass or drop me an email. You can also bring a laptop from home. Please see the IT support team if you wish to do this. We would like to have all students in years 8-12 accessing a device to help with their studies.
The term has been a busy one. We held our 2nd Swimming Carnival. It was great to see so many students involved cheering on their friends. It wasn’t all competitive; we threw in some rather silly events all in the name of health and fitness. Lots of students ride their bike or walk to school daily. The 17th March was the Ride 2 School day and many students participated. The year 7’s did not ride that day, but they did plenty of walking on their transition camp. It has become a real highlight of the transition into year 7 with many students returning from camp with strengthened friendships throughout the year level. Photos will be shared next term. I would also like to say thank you to Steph and Jessica for organising the ‘National Say No to Bullying Day’ and our ‘Walkathon’ for the ThankYou charity. Both are very important issues that students engaged with.
Next term is all about getting ready for Open Day. We are not a school that has to try too hard to put on a show. Our high school looks great every day in the areas that matter: teaching and learning. On May 4th we will run a serious of tours for interested parents. Posters and postcards are coming! I encourage our year 6 families to come along, even if you know you are staying. It is always great to meet the families that are going to be in the high school next year. If you are a little unsure I encourage to have a look at other schools whilst keeping in mind all the reasons you chose Collingwood. Diversity, Relationships and Creativity always spring to mind when I think about what we offer as well as our great programs in The Arts, Music, Science, Maths and camps. I am pleased that we are moving close to be able to say we will have a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program at year 7 and 8 for next year. The first high school in Australia. This year our lovely year 7s are already feeling a different style to our food programs. They are all loving the homegrown Beetroot dip. By the end of the year we will have a new garden and a revamped Food curriculum linked to other curriculum areas like Maths, Science and Art. Add to this the prospect of updated technology areas on the third floor and new science labs, the school is preparing for a bright future. (and yes the entrance and fence will be completed very soon!)
Have a wonderful and safe holiday period. See you in term 2!
