Grade 6 Melbourne Camp

We had a fantastic time away in Melbourne for the Grade 6 Camp. We all thoroughly enjoyed the MCG, The Queen Victorian Market, ACMI, the Shrine, Scienceworks, the night walk along Southbank, Mr Mac's Spelling Test and so much more!

Grade 5 Newspaper Challenge

While the Grade 6 students were away on camp, the Grade 5 students had some fun of their own. They were given the challenge of creating the tallest free standing structure using newspaper and masking tape. There were some truly brilliant designs!

Upcoming Week

In reading sessions this fortnight, we will be focusing on the fluency strategies of 'use character voices for dialogue'. This is always a fun one for students to practise! We will also be wrapping up our Reader's Notebook, The Girl from the Great Sandy Desert, next week. The students have been thoroughly engaged in the book and we have had some very interesting discussions about comparisons and contrasts students have made when looking at their day-to-day lives and those of the Walmajarri people.

We will continue to work on our Topic presentations during writing next week. The students have spent a lot of time researching their chosen country, finding out facts around language, currency, landmarks, accommodation and more. These findings will all come together into a presentation, perhaps in the form of a travel brochure. The 5/6 teachers are all keen to check out the projects so we can decide on our next holiday destination!

In Mathematics, we will be finishing off our Patterns and Algebra unit with a final lesson and post-test next week. The students will also be completing some pre-test assessments ahead of our Term 3 Mathematics units. The students will continue to be placed in Fluid Groups that best target their current learning goals.
