East Gippsland Music Festival

The East Gippsland Music Festival was a significant event for the music students of Bairnsdale Secondary College at the end of last term. All band, string and choir students were involved. The Gala concert was performed on the Thursday 23rd June in the evening to a full Boucher Hall audience and provided a fitting end to the term’s work. Fourteen staff worked with over 250 students from 10 different schools.

The Bairnsdale Secondary College music students were wonderful hosts, helping with the overall running of the festival, and looking after the visiting students and staff.

A huge congratulations to all involved and thank you to the music staff who conducted ensembles, tutored and performed with the students.

New Music Uniform

The music department is pleased to announce that the new music shirts have arrived. Most students should have received their shirt for the Music Festival and everyone else can collect one before the next concert. These shirts are provided for all music students as long as they are in the music program. Students should return them when they leave the program or if they need to change their size. The shirts are to be worn with black pants or skirt, black tights or socks and black shoes. 

AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board)

Each year music students have the opportunity to do an AMEB exam. The Australian Music Examinations Board is an independent organisation that administers examinations in music, speech and drama, including examinations assessing performance on various instruments. AMEB exams are a useful motivator for students and help students prepare for VCE exams. Students receive a certificate and grading for successful completion of the exam. Students should discuss the option of doing an exam with their music teacher prior to enrolling. Enrolment forms are available at the music office.
