Architect Announced

I’m excited to announce that an architect for our $11.8 million building project (to replace the gym and performing arts spaces) has been appointed.

Last week, I joined representatives from the Victorian School Building Authority and the DET, to interview three shortlisted architectural firms. The selection panel was in full agreement about appointing Kosloff Architecture to lead this exciting project.

The interview process allowed me to gain some early insight into not only how the planning and construction process will play out over the coming months/years, but also the different possibilities that might be a feature of the new facility. This could include anything from innovative design features to the position of the new building on school grounds.

I have reiterated to the architect that we are not just looking for a building that functions adequately, but that we want to push the envelope and create innovative learning spaces and design.

Our project inception meeting with the new architects will occur next week and that point will be the official start of the process of acquitting the $11.8 million and building the replacement for the ECA.

The first steps, which will occur this term, involve a complete masterplan and review of our current facilities. This process will determine how we can maximise the use and effectiveness of our current facilities, and consider how the new facility can complement and improve what we already have.

Once this process is complete, the architects will get to work considering the ideal location for the building project and begin the initial designs. I am hopeful that we will have some insight into those designs before the end of the year.

When the design process is completed, the VSBA will seek submissions via tender for construction. Without any unforeseen delays, construction could hopefully begin either just before, or around, the middle of next year with completion in 2024.

We will be consulting widely with students, parents and staff as we undertake this building project and I will keep all members of our school community updated regularly as we work through the process over the next 2 years.

Congratulations to Shane Kruger

Shane Kruger, our Assistant Principal of Middle Years has been promoted to Acting Principal of Lillydale Heights.  Although we will miss Shane, we wish him all the best in his new role and we look forward to his return in Term 4.

In the interim, Tony Stirling will be Acting Assistant Principal of Middle Years for Term 3.
