Sports Excellence Program

The Girton Grammar School Sports Excellence Program is pleased to announce it is now taking mid-year enrolments commencing in Semester Two for Students in Years 5-8.

We know that physical activity offers our children a wide range of important developmental benefits. When adopted early in life, it also increases the chances of maintaining an active lifestyle into adulthood.

Physical activity can have a significant impact in helping to reduce childhood obesity, diabetes and a variety of other chronic diseases. Childhood activity can also have long-term effects, such as reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and metabolic conditions later in life, improving musculoskeletal health, and reducing adult mortality. Research also provides strong evidence for the positive link between exercise and brain development in children.

It’s hard to expect children to always want to pick physical activity and sport over screen time, so as parents, we play an important role in influencing kids to have an active lifestyle.

Whether it’s incorporating movement in daily activities from a young age and ensuring it’s fun and straightforward, signing children up for community sports, or joining them for a backyard game of cricket or soccer, it’s our role to be involved in helping get them involved.

Our Sports Excellence athletes come in twice a week for an hour. They are assigned to groups depending on various factors, including biological age and physical capabilities.

Our current sessions include:

  • Monday 3:30- 4:30pm
  • Tuesday 7:00- 8:00am
  • Wednesday 3:30- 4:30pm
  • Tuesday 7:00- 8:00am

The cost of the program is $115 for the semester. All funds go directly to equipment and production of the specialist training programs used in the classes.

REMEMBER- Active children = Active Adults
