Queensland University of Technology

New QUT offerings

QUT is offering two new majors in the Bachelor of Business degree and one new minor in the Bachelor of Science degree, from the start of 2023.  Students will be able to select Behavioural Economics or Entrepreneurship and Innovation as a major in Bachelor of Business from Semester 1, 2023.

Behavioural Economics will be a multi-disciplinary study across Economics, Consumer Behaviour, and Law, where students will develop skills in understanding how and why people behave in particular ways and how to support individuals in making positive behavioural choices.

In Entrepreneurship and Innovation, students will design, refine, and develop an entrepreneurial product or business idea in response to business or social needs. They will also compete for funding at two-time points throughout the major to assist in developing the product or business idea.

The Bachelor of Science course is designed so that students will explore each of the core majors in their first year of study – Biological Science, Physics, Environmental Science, Chemistry and Earth Science. This will help them to make an informed decision about which major to study in their second year. From Semester 1, 2023, students may choose to include Climate Science as a minor. This area will deliver a strong understanding of climate science, combined with Earth-ocean-atmosphere interaction, insight into global change, sustainability and air quality and climate change mitigation measures. The Climate Science minor includes four units – Global Change, Dynamic Atmosphere, Introduction to Climate Change and Marine and Atmospheric Systems.

Another exciting course coming to QUT at the start of 2024 will be the Bachelor of Engineering / Master of Robotics and AI. We look forward to hearing more about this exciting opportunity in the year ahead.

Bond University

Climate Change and Law event

Students in Years 11 and 12 are invited to the new Bond University teaching space in Spring Hill, to engage in a Climate Change and Law educational experience, on Wednesday 29 June from 8:45 am – 2:00 pm.

Climate change is expected to impact almost all aspects of human life. To address and ultimately reverse the wide-reaching effects of climate change, we need a new generation of energised, empowered and legally educated advocates. Learning from the Executive Dean of Bond’s Faculty of Law, students will immerse themselves in the study of climate change and law through three online modules and a one-day practical workshop. The in-person component of this experience will be held in Brisbane at Bond University’s innovative new teaching space. Learn online and at your own pace about the science of climate change, major international climate change agreements, and the legal proceedings brought against governments and corporations that have failed to act. Once students have completed the modules, join Bond University for a practical workshop, where students will learn the skills to advocate persuasively for climate law reform. This course builds on concepts covered in the QCAA Legal Studies syllabus, Units 3 and 4. It’s also an ideal development opportunity for any student who is interested in learning more about climate change and how to make a positive impact.

No prior knowledge about climate change and the law is required

Please rsvp by Monday 20 June. Once registered, learners will be emailed links to the online modules on Monday 20 June - which will be delivered via the Bond University learning platform. These will need to be completed in the week prior to attending the face-to-face workshop. Upon completion of all course requirements, learners will be issued a certificate of achievement. Register using the button below.
