A very big congratulations to our College Football team who competed in very cold conditions at the Andrews Cup Competition in Toowoomba on Tuesday. It was an exciting day for the girls who closely followed the team rules: have fun, play as a team and give it 100%. Their hard work and wonderful team spirit was rewarded with a joint Premiership win with (Toowoomba Anglican School) TAS. It was so lovely to see two small schools perform so well and attain outstanding results. The sportsmanship of all girls was to be commended.

Primary Sport - Britton Shield

Britton Shield Cross Country

The inaugural Britton Shield Cross Country carnival took place on a pleasant Friday June 3 at Limestone Park, Ipswich.

Sports Captain, Daniel Nam, proved the value of regular training attendance with a solid second place in the first race of the day – under 12s. The under 11s was the next race and new student Alex Mi demonstrated great determination to come 3rd and gave 100%, leaving nothing behind. Whereas the under 10s worked incredibly well together as a team. The under 9s also had some solid performances to enable them to come a credible second. The stand out age group were the under 8s with Charlie Quinn coming 2nd to lead the team to an age group championship. Well done to all the boys who participated and it was clear to see the benefits of regular training. All boys are invited to return in 2023 and to continue the great achievements started by our Year 2 and 3 students.

Secondary Sports Update

QGSSSA Cross Country

CONGRATULATIONS to all girls who gave their all last Saturday at the QGSSSA Cross Country Championships to take out FIRST place in the Joan Benson Percentage Shield.

This is a truly amazing achievement and a testament to the coaching team and the new direction taken in 2022 and the efforts of the girls who regularly attended the training. Some key performances that secured this victory were as follows:

Leila Johnson (5th place in U 16)
Poppy Stephen (13th place in U16)

Half of all CC runners finished in the middle of the field, with all events fielding over 90 – 120 runners per age group. Not only did our girls finish strong in terms of their position within the race, but there were also so many brilliant finishers who overtook a number of girls in the sprint to the finish line, an amazing effort!

A special thanks must also go out to all the spectators who attended, students, staff and parents. Their cheering, drumming and signing certainly added to the wonderful atmosphere of the day, but I am sure it also spurred our girls on over those last few hundred meters of the event.

This incredible result now makes it two from two in terms of the Big 3 and the percentage cups/shields. Our girls now have their sights set on making it a clean sweep with Athletics on the last Thursday of Term 3. All girls are encouraged to attend training next term, which will be held on Monday afternoons at Bowden Park and at the college on Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Ines Annan-Schmidt (Year 9) - Netball

Congratulations to Ines, who has been selected to represent the U14 Division 1 QCNA team competing at the Nissan State Age Netball Championships 2022 in July.

The 2022 Senior Nissan State Age Championships is a state-wide competition where athletes compete for their association at the highest representative level in QLD. Well done Ines and we look forward to hearing about your performances when we return in Term 3.

Leila Johnson (Year 11) - Cross Country

With only two days rest from her fantastic 5th place honours at last weeks QGSSSA Cross country Championships and heavy legs, Leila took out first place at the week’s Metropolitan North Cross Country Championships. A truly amazing achievement on what was a very slow and boggy course.

Well done Leila, and we look forward to hearing about your run at the QSS State championship on Saturday 16 to Monday 18 July 2022 hosted by South Coast.

It is wonderful to be able to share student achievements with you, so if your son or daughter has achieved a significant result in their sport, please send an email labelled “Student Achievements” to sport@clayfield.qld.edu.au so we can share and celebrate this achievement with the wider community.
