Fare Share

"On the 16th of June, we went to Fare Share on the school bus. We made and cooked sausage rolls. There are a lot of steps to make sausage rolls but it was worth it because people were able to eat them for a snack. Then after we went back, half of our group flipped the sausage rolls while the other group placed stickers to go on cottage pies." Trish Phan, Year 11

"Fare Share is a charity which provides food for people who can't afford it. They rely on supermarkets to donate produce that are close to the expiry date or not up to shelf standards. It was a really great experience as I felt I was helping the community. I also got to know some of the volunteers and why they enjoy volunteering at Fare Share." Maddison Brown, Year 11

According to Fare Share, ""We appreciate the time and support of the Killester College students in providing much needed nourishment and peace of mind for less fortunate people in our community".

While Killester College was at Fare Share, they:

  • Prepared and cooked 1133 sausage rolls
  • Prepared many kilos of pastry to line egg and vegetable pies
  • Labelled too many packages to count
  • Cleaned and prepared the kitchen for the next shift

On the money

City of Greater Dandenong Incursion

During the incursion (on the 14th of June) we learnt so much from Jess and Keely about interest, credit cards and how to spend money in a good and smart way! We got a better understanding about loans and having to pay them off, and how if you didn’t then a percentage would be added for every due payment if it wasn't  paid. We also got the opportunity to learn that if you pay the bare minimum it will take a longer time to pay depending on the amount of money. We’ll definitely be using this for our future.
