Year 3

The year 3’s are right in the thick of NAPLAN. They have worked so very hard for the last term and a half and we know they will be putting in a 110% effort. The students have immersed themselves into the topics of narrative writing, multiplication and division, mass and capacity and summarising and inferring. Please makes sure you are checking out Seesaw for tasks that the students have completed.

Reading:

The preparation is well on the way for our students as the countdown to NAPLAN begins! This term the students have dived right into using SeeSaw for their Reading tasks. Make sure you check out their great work and show them some love! In the final week before the big day, we are continuing to build our students abilities and confidence in summarising and inferring characters feelings, traits, and motives through Narratives. We are so proud of all our students and commend them on their positive mindsets in class!

Maths:

The start of term two saw our grade 3 students settling nicely into routine. Students have begun their Multiplication and Division unit and are beginning to use groups and arrays to solve problems. They have also continued on with their measurement unit from term 1 and have looked closely at Perimeter, Area and now, Capacity. You can help your child at home by practicing skip counting by 2s 3s, 5s and 10s as well as ordering containers from what holds the least to what holds the most. Check out some of the great maths work we have been doing so far:

Aya’s Dream House, 3C

Clinton’s Dream House, 3C

Aaliyah’s Dream House, 3C

Jeffrey’s Perimeter Person, 3C

Shannon’s Perimeter Person, 3C

Writing:

This term students have begun writing narratives. We have been planning each step meticulously, assisting and teaching students how to add specific details in order to make their narratives interesting. Students have been given the topic of a pot and they are coming up with a range of different stories that feature the pot in one way, shape or form.

Year 4

The grade 4 students have settled well into term 2 and were excited to be reconnected with their peers and teachers after the holidays.

SeeSaw: Students were sent home SeeSaw Family invites at the end of last term. Please take the time to connect to your child’s SeeSaw journal if you haven’t already done so. You will be able to read about the units of work your child will be engaging in, as well as some of your child’s work throughout the term.

Homework: The Grade 4 students were in a good routine with their homework in term 1. It’s important that this continues into term 2. Students are given their tasks every Monday and are due in every Friday. Students are expected to read every week night for a minimum of 20 minutes. Students have been shown how to record this in their diary and this needs to be signed by a parent/ guardian.

Melbourne Museum Excursion: The Grade 4 students are excited to be heading to the Melbourne Museum on Monday the 23rd of May. Payment and consent for this event is live on Compass and closes on Monday 16th of May.

The Grade 5 students have had a great start to Term 2! Throughout Term 2 in English, Grade 5 students will be learning about Expository Texts. Students will learn how to structure and write an expository text, while also practicing the following reading skills when reading an expository text; predicting, summarising and synthesising.

In Mathematics, Grade 5 Students will be focussing on Data and Operations. In the Data unit, students will be analysing and interpreting graphs, as well as conducting their own Data Investigation. Throughout the Operations unit, students will be focussing on a range of strategies to solve problems that include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

We look forward to a great term with all of the Grade 5 Students!

Kind regards,

Grade 5 Teachers
