Prep students have had a great start to Term 2 as they get back into school routines. Students have been excited about being a part of the P-6 assembly and have shown great resilience and respect by showing their 5 L’s during the assembly.

Students were very excited to visit the mother’s day stall. The Prep students took their time looking around the stall to find the perfect gift for mum or loved one. Students were also very excited to use their money and receive their change. Students practiced card writing by writing a card to mum and loved ones for mothers day as well as designing a magnet for the fridge.

Prep students have been very excited about seeing their grade 6 buddies and participating in activities together. This week they got to know more about their buddies by asking questions about their favourite colour, animals, things to eat. Students worked with their buddies drawing pictures and writing all of the things they got to know about their buddies. Students also started their SMP program with the help of the grade 6’s. Students engaged in activities such as: ring toss, skip rope and hurdles.

Term 2 has already been so eventful for the Prep students and we look forward to many more fun times ahead!

From

Year 1

The Year 1s have had a great start to Term 2. We’ve all slid back into learning and playing together with a lot of new concepts being taught.

In Literacy, students are investigating a number of transactional texts and have written themselves notes, affirmations and lists. This week we are looking at invitations and all the things that need to be included. They are also learning about homophones in Initial Lit.

In Maths, students are exploring place value and have had lots of fun playing games, building towers of tens and ones, ordering numbers and using paddlepop sticks to represent larger numbers. Place Value stepping stones was a really fun game that students got to play on their seesaw accounts. This game encouraged students to think about the numbers and order them on the stepping stones from the smallest number to the largest number using their place value skills. There are many board games on their seesaw account so you could ask your child to play the game with you at home.

In Play-based learning, students have been introduced to the terms ‘Past and Present’ and so far have been looking at school life and home life and comparing it from now to the past. They have had a lot of fun playing games from the past such as marbles and elastics. If there are games that you used to play when you were a child it would be fabulous to see some photos of games being played from the past at home now.

In Science, students are investigating Earth Science this term. They are learning about natural verses man made things in their environment. They are also looking at patterns in the weather and day and night and things that change in the sky and the landscape. This week they are conducting an experiment to find out where the stars go during the day time.

Students are being encouraged to continue their nightly reading, or at least 4 nights per week along with practising how to read and spell their Tricky Words.

Wishing you all a wonderful Term 2.
