Year 4 Dream Big – Physical Theatre

In Term 1 this year, 15 Year 4 students signed up to join Dream Big's Physical Theatre program for seven weeks from Week 3 to Week 9. Last year Dream Big ran a drumming and dancing workshop for Year 5s and 7s, which was a great success! The Wellbeing Team was excited to welcome Dream Big back again for another great program.

Physical theatre is about telling stories or communicating ideas primarily through movement rather than words. Like circus, it relies upon an individual's techniques and skills but also their capacity to work well with others. Two brilliant artists from Dream Big, Cath and Amy, facilitated the learning of physical theatre techniques through games, dance, physical humour, prop work and the use of music to help students express their emotions and ideas.

The confidence, creativity and connection between students changed dramatically as weeks went by! By the end of the program in Week 9 students were visibly expressive and confident in using their body to tell a story, to mimic, to show emotions, to dance and so on.

Many students attended the Dream Big Festival on the 3rd of April in Melton South to perform their physical theatre piece they had been rehearsing at school. What a fantastic achievement for these Year 4s students and thank you to Dream Big for offering another great program!
