TRADE

HOL for Term 2 kicked off on a high note. Week 1 was spent on putting up a shed on the concreted slab by the Senior Trade crew. Week 2 was the assembly and installation of the 2 garden beds and a greenhouse by the Landscape group. The garden is ready for winter veggies as well as seedlings to go into the newly installed greenhouse.

A big thank you to the people involved in making our school garden up and functioning again!

CAFE

What has been happening in the H.o.L Café so far?

In term one, the HoL café students had a heap of fun getting to know their team and what was required of them. Throughout the term, some of the students got the opportunity to do some catering events, including the afternoon tea for the teachers, working on the greatest shave where we donated all the sales from this event and creating a couple of special birthdays presents for some of our favourite teachers.

This term, we have brought in a couple of new students and have already been involved in a couple of catering events including a special afternoon tea for some of our news staff members at the school, with more events to come.

The students are now used to how things are run and have established routines. They have even started to memorise some of their favourite teachers’ orders!

What do we do in the HoL Café?

From Tuesday to Friday, each day a group of 5 selected students, from grade 6 to year 9 attend the Grab and go Café. These same students will attend each week for the whole term, coming in from 9 am – 3:15 pm.

Throughout the day,  the students undertake the daily tasks of running a fully operational café. They prepare and cook all food served in the café along with running and operating a commercial coffee machine. Throughout lunchtime and recess, the students undertake “Service.” During this time, the students will get the chance to take orders from staff, money handling and prepare all food and drink orders.

I can’t wait to see how well they bloom into their roles and hopefully see some future Baristas and Masters of the culinary arts emerge in the future.
