Year 5

This term in Year 5, we have been learning about Australian History. We have spent a lot of time learning about the effect colonisation had on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, as well as important events and people that shaped Australia. Here are some photos of our amazing work!

For our end of Term Inquiry project, students are creating Learning Centres about a notable Australian. A reminder that we will have our open afternoon, where parents, carers and friends are invited into classrooms to see your child/s learning centre! This will be on Thursday the 23rd of June from 2.00 – 3.00 in your child’s classroom. We look forward to seeing you there!

Senior PE

Term 2 has been an action packed term for Sport!  In Week 1, Years 3-6 went to Casey Fields Athletics track to compete in our House Athletics Day. This was a great day for us all to compete in a number of Track and Field events against other students and earn points for our House.  It was great to see everyone having a great time, competing in a lot of different events and really trying their best.

On Thursday 5th May, there were 42 students that represented Clyde Primary School in our District Cross Country. All the students did such a fantastic job and really tried their best, it was great to see.  We were also really lucky with the weather!  Well done to all competitors. Special mention goes to Caleb, Kody , Cody  and Keira for making it through to Division.

On Friday 3rd June, Caleb, Cody and Keira represented our school at Division Cross Country  (Kody unfortunately was sick and was unable to compete on the day). They all did an amazing job, running their best races. Special mention goes to Caleb for coming 7th and making it through to Regional Cross Country, which he competed in last Wednesday, where he ran a personal best race. Well done Caleb, Cody and Keira, we are all really proud of your efforts.

On Wednesday 8th June, Year 5 and 6 students braved the weather to play either AFL, Netball, Newcombe or Soccer against other schools in our District. We all had a fantastic day playing our sport, working as a team and demonstrating good sportsmanship. Our Netball Team 1 came third overall, after winning 7, drawing one and only losing 1 game. Netball Team 2 also had a great day, winning half their games.  Our soccer teams had a great day against some tough competition, but they managed to score some great goals later in the day.  Our Newcombe teams did a great job too, playing against some tough competition and even managed to win a few games.  Our AFL team was undefeated for the day, coming first. We will now play off against the winner of District B to decide the winner that will go onto Division.  Well done to everyone that competed in their sport.

Over the last few weeks of term, some students in Years 3-6 have had the opportunity to take part in a program called Club Connect, where we have a coach come to our school twice a week before school, to build and develop our skills. Last term we did Taekwondo, this term we have done Basketball. All the students that have taken part have really enjoyed it. At the start of Term 3, Years 3 -6 will be doing Basketball in PE, in preparation for Hooptime!

ART

Students from Foundation through to Year 6 have had the best time participating in the glow room activity in art this term. They have been able to experience painting using black lights and neon paints in the dark to create artworks that glow. They were able to turn these works they created into a big gallery that exhibited over 500 pieces of artwork within the art room. Over a number of afternoons, students, families and friends were able to visit the glow room and even do some drawing together in the dark using fluro markers and neon oil pastels. It’s fabulous to say that the turn out for each time the art room was open was amazing, and the students were so happy to know that their work was on display for you all to see. Once the glow room was over, we were able to take that opportunity to delve further into the curriculum and explore the meaning of galleries and themes in art. It was a great unit of work and one the students are all looking forward to doing again 😊.

STEM

We have had so much fun in STEM exploring Science this term. Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 have been investigating light and sound, from making shadow puppet shows to walkie talkies. Year 3 and Year 4 have been looking into heat and how it can transfer between objects and we have finished off the term by creating mini fridges to keep ice cool. Year 5 and Year 6 have been exploring different aspects of space and space travel. We’ve enjoyed learning the order of the planets and different facts about our solar system.
