NAPLAN 2022
NAPLAN stands for National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy. NAPLAN results allow parents/carers and educators to see how students are progressing in literacy and numeracy over time – individually, as part of their school community, and against national standards. We will send out more detailed information to Year 7 and 9 families early in Term Two.
NAPLAN is now ‘online’, and our Year 7 and 9 students will participate in NAPLAN next term in weeks three and four. They will complete four assessments over a two-week period. Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Numeracy. The ‘online’ platform is new for most students and does require some getting used to. In preparation, students have been exposed to a practice session and participated in Tutor Group activities to ensure they are familiar with the platform. This familiarisation will continue in the first couple of weeks of next term.
I recommend all parents and carers have a look at the ‘public demonstration’ site: https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site If you scroll down and click on the relevant Year level, you can have a look at the key features and tools that students need to be familiar with, prior to undertaking NAPLAN.
Junior School Parent Teacher Interviews
These will be held in the first week of Term Two, on Thursday 28th April. Bookings via Compass will open on Monday 4th April. This is a good opportunity for you to meet your child’s teachers, discuss and celebrate their progress and formulate strategies for improvement. These will be conducted online via WebEx. Further information will be made available through Compass.
On Thursday March 24th, the Black Dog Institute, in partnership with the Wellbeing Team, hosted a presentation to assist parents and carers better understand the mental health and wellbeing needs of their young people. This evening was very informative and well attended. Further information and resources can be found at: https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au
I hope everyone has a safe and restful break.
