Assistant Principal Report -Senior School

By Michael Tuck

Congratulations to students, parents and staff on making it through to the end of Term One.  While it has been challenging for individuals with the disruption of the week of isolation for those impacted, it has been great to see our senior school students re-engaging in the routine and expectations of school.  I’m sure the break will be welcomed by students as the end of term fatigue sets in. It is important that students across all year levels take a bit of a break to recharge, but to still maintain the basic routines of good sleep habits, exercise and some homework.

Year 12 students have two significant events in the coming weeks.  Firstly, they will be heading off to camp at The Summit, Trafalgar East, this week.  This a great way to end the term and further develop the existing bonds of the cohort. Students will participate in a number of activities aimed to encourage goal setting, pushing themselves, team work and wellbeing, along with some targeted English based sessions. Year 12 Formal is being held Friday 29th April at Merrimu Receptions, Chadstone. We’re looking forward to seeing our students ‘dressed to impress’ and dancing the night away.

Year 11 students will be participating in the Futures program while the year 12s are on camp. This program is designed to support students in making decisions that are fast approaching.  Sessions will focus on driver education and road trauma, pathway options, motivation and ‘safe partying’.  These sessions are highly valuable and engaging, with opportunities for students to broaden their horizons and gain real-world insights that can put into practice immediately.  I can’t speak highly enough of the presenters and the messages they send to our students.

For Year 10 students work experience is fast approaching.  The premise of work experience is to provide students with a real world understanding of a vocation or industry in which they have an interest.  A part of the experience is attempting to source a placement for themselves.  Students are encouraged to use the break to make contact with employers and try and finalise their placement.

I hope all students have an enjoyable safe break and I look forward to welcoming you all back in Term Two.
