2022 PARKDALE SECONDARY COLLEGE HOUSE SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The weather for this year’s whole school Swimming Carnival was the best for some years. Participation was high and students and staff enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy a day away from the classroom together, after a tough couple of years. Well done to ILUKA House who won this year’s House Swimming Carnival at Oakleigh Recreation Centre.
Everyone enjoyed the venue’s pool edge seating, which saw standing room only for the Freestyle Relays. After losing to the Year 12 students last year in the blue ribbon event, the Staff V Student Freestyle relay race, the staff teams came out strong from the start, redeeming themselves to finish in 1st and 2nd positions! Mr Ryan’s race calling of the event again adding to the excitement 😊

House Swimming Carnival – Sport Captain’s Report
The 2022 House Swimming Carnival went swimmingly this year. The student attendance was high and participation was strong across all year levels in and out of the pool. To start the day, the large number of Year 12’s came together and started to transition into their year level parade. The costumes stood out greatly against the shining, chlorine filled water and the highlight of the group was Jude ‘falling’ into the pool.
As the Year 12’s dispersed, the events commenced. Freestyle opened the Swimming Carnival with the largest number of participators, even if the style of stroke was questionable. A group of year 12 boys gathered in the corner of the grass area and played some banging tunes to drown out the ‘ows’ and ‘oohs’ of crowd reactions from flops and jumps in the diving area. The tug of war was also popular amongst the spectators and students, especially with the Year 12’s themselves. The contest was high and competitors were strong, but in the end only one side ended up with victory, despite claims of it being rigged.
To finalise the day, teachers and students came face to face to fight for the prize of Staff V Student champions award, with the teachers coming out on top and taking the prize. Overall, the swimming carnival was a massive success in the eyes of the victorious, second place-getters, swim-walkers, and teachers alike.
