Year 6 Pink Tshirt Day Poems

As part of the National Action Day Against Bullying, year 6 learnt about an initiative called ‘Pink Tshirt Day’, which was created as a stand against bullying. In 2007, a year 9 male student was bullied for wearing a pink tshirt on the first day of school. Two students saw this and decided to take a stand. They went to a local store and bought 50 pink tshirts and gave them out to the other students to wear. The students all turned up at school the next day in pink tshirts to show support for the bullied student. This showed the power of taking a stand when you see something happening that you know is wrong. Our year 6 students spent some time talking about the different experiences of the bully, the bullied and the bystander and then wrote a poem exploring the emotions and experiences from one of these perspectives. The result was some incredibly powerful and emotional writing that they can be very proud of.
