From the Principal

THANK YOU FOR A GREAT TERM

We have had a great start to the 2022 school year. Although some students and staff have had to spend time isolating this term, we have been able to keep our school open for the entire term. After the past two uncertain years, this has been such a positive outcome for the whole community. I would like to thank the community for continuing to use the Rapid Antigen Tests that have been sent home fortnightly and for keeping students at home when they have displayed any covid symptoms. I believe this measure, alongside the mask and ventilation measures mandated by the Department of Education have kept our community as healthy as possible and our school open.

We have certainly packed a great deal into term one. Our 2022 prep students settled in to their new lives at primary school. The prep team have created a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment. The preps are also enjoying their time with our specialist teachers and their year 6 buddies. The children are already working happily and diligently and often quite independently, they should be very proud of their achievements. The students in years 1 to 6 have all had a productive term of learning balanced with some important wellbeing opportunities. We value academic growth across all curriculum areas balanced with respect, resilience and care for all.

Our senior students participated in our swimming carnival and interschool sports. The year 6 cohort were fortunate to attend a very successful school camp after two years of not being able to attend camp.

We are delighted to welcome Verity Walker to the position of School Council President for 2022. Verity has been an active member of our School Council for a number of years and is a keen member of a number of subcommittees.

Our 2022 PFA members have had an extremely busy term providing many opportunities for our students. We appreciate your enthusiasm for our school.

We also welcomed a number of new staff who have fitted in wonderfully well and happily embraced the Carnegie culture. We thank all of our teachers and support staff for their hard work this term.

We invite parents to continue to see our school leaders and teachers as approachable and willing to listen to all concerns and contributions. A good relationship between parents and teachers remains as vital as ever in best meeting the needs of the children.

The last day of term 1 is this Friday 8th April. There will be an assembly commencing at 10am on this day where our traditional Easter Raffle will be drawn. We will be streaming this event for parents who wish to be part of the raffle. Streaming details will be shared via Compass later this week. The children finish school at 2.30pm.

Please note that term 2 commences on Tuesday 26th April. Wishing everyone a happy and safe holiday. We are looking forward to seeing everyone well rested from the holiday break. I am so pleased to let you all know that we will be welcoming Ms Jones back as our principal in term 2. I am sure some of you saw her volunteering at the fiesta on Saturday afternoon.

There are many incredible things planned for term 2, I look forward to experiencing these events alongside all members of our community.

OUR INCREDIBLE FOOD FIESTA

The twilight fiesta was held on Saturday and what a buzz it created in our community. It was tremendous to see our community coming together after several years without an event such as this. Although the grey skies threatened, the rain stayed away. There are many, many people who worked hard to put this event together.

Thanks go to the core of PFA members who arranged the fiesta, completing many hours of work over the last few weeks to arrange everything.

Thanks to those who ensured it was a safe and covid compliant event.

Thanks to those parents and carers who prepared delicious food that was sold on various stalls.

Thanks to the parents and carers who were involved in setting up and packing away. These are not the glamorous jobs, but are so important to the running of the event.

Thank you to those who volunteered, whatever you did, meaning the fiesta was able to take place on the last day of daylight savings.

The dunk machine proved popular with kids of all ages and it was great to see some of our students taking their place on the machine alongside some of the teachers and community members.

Having the rides and the Kids Corner activities made the afternoon all the more special for our students.

I would sincerely like to thank the group of volunteers who returned to school on Sunday to ensure the school grounds and rooms were ready for our staff and students on Monday morning.

We are so lucky to have such wonderful people in our community!
