Around the School
Don't palm us off
( repost from Zoo news issue 45)
Easter is just around the corner, and you can make choices ion the supermarket aisle that are both delicious and more environmentally sustainable.
By hunting down Easter treats that contain no vegetable oils or only contain the most traceable forms of Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) you can support companies that are choosing to support people and wildlife. Companies that only source 'the best' form of CSPO include Ferrero, Kinder and Violet Crumble.

Year 9 students were in the field on the 8th, 10 and 11th of March. They had a workshop with the zoo educators and collecting data to answer the big question on how effective are organization in having a positive impact on tourism?
Students worked well with Melbourne Zoo staff using their observations skills to record data to share with the class. Students will work in class on a report applying their knowledge, presenting their data and ultimately answering the big question using their data to support their findings.

Year 10 Science Students!
If you’ve been thinking about a career in Science, you might like to investigate the work experience opportunities in Term 2 at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI). WEHI is one of the premiere biomedical research facilities in Australia and work experience there would be a hands-on way to see how science is done in the real world.

Dollars and Sense
In preparation for the ASX sharemarket game students played the fish trading game to understand buying low and selling high and the opportunity cost of making quick decisions without checking the market, observing trends in price and demand. Students were keen to test their skills against the game and I look forward to seeing some research being applied to the $50,000 virtual dollars they have in the ASX game.
