Message From Our

Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to Term 2. It was great to see everyone enthusiastic and ready for a busy and productive term ahead.

This week we are celebrating Catholic Education Week. Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all Catholic schools to celebrate our distinctive mission and share things that are special about our schools. At Sacred Heart we have immense gratitude for all who came before us in Catholic Education - the students, families, parishioners, educators, Sisters of Mercy and clergy who have worked with so much commitment and love to ensure Catholic Education flourishes. We look forward with hope, trust and faith in our loving God and a future that is brimming with the Good News.

As part of this celebration, Year 5 and 6 will attend an Ablaze Youth Concert live for Goulburn Valley Schools next Thursday.

On Friday, May 6th at 9:15am we will celebrate Mothers’ Day with a Mass in Sacred Heart Church. We have really missed this celebration over the past two years and welcome any mothers, grandmothers or family members who would like to join us. We will ask that you wear a mask inside the church and unfortunately you will not be able to sit with your children as we cannot mix the children’s groups. We are also sorry to say that due to the current restrictions we are unable to invite you back to the school following the Mass but will do so as soon as we possibly can.  All classes will participate in Mothers’ Day PPR on Friday.

On ANZAC Day many children were able to join the Tatura ANZAC march and represent either their school or local community group.  Parents, thank you for supporting your children to be there and participate in this very important day in our Australian story. It was wonderful to see the respect and honour our younger generation displayed as they participated in this important commemoration.   A special thank you to our Year 6 Leaders for laying a wreath on behalf of Sacred Heart School.  5/6 CB led us in a lovely, reflective Anzac prayer during Friday’s Assembly reminding us all of the significance of this day.

On Sunday children who are beginning to prepare for their Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist were presented to our parish community. Over the coming weeks they will spend time with their families preparing for the Sacraments which will take place later in the term. We also have some children preparing for their Baptism in the coming weeks. This is a very important time for the children and their families and our prayers are with them all.

Well done to all our children on the way they competed in our Cross Country. Everyone joined in the fun of the day, had a go and was determined to do their best, encouraging others and cheering them along. It was wonderful to see and hear the spirit of the day. Thank you, Reilly Young, for organising the event, staff for helping and children for the way you competed. Congratulations also to our winning house, Frayne.  The first three placegetters in Year 4-6 have qualified for Division Cross Country on May 13th. Congratulations. Further information will be sent out to you shortly.

Year 3 and 4 have enjoyed two fantastic days at Camp Kookaburra this week. I have had wonderful reports of how much all the children enjoyed themselves, participated in everything with enthusiasm, displayed our school values and were their best! Thank you to Nicole Brown, Laura Bradbury, Dom Poppa, Wendy Vincitorio, Tracy Marshall, Reilly Young, Tayla Corbo and Jess Miller for your time spent ensuring 3/4s had an experience they won’t forget. School camp is a wonderful opportunity to build independence and create great memories with school friends.  Year 5/6 will have their turn when they all head to Canberra in Term 4.

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The assessments which will be held from May 9-13 provides parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. This year is the first time that our students will complete the NAPLAN assessments online. Using an online platform will be an interesting exercise for our children. It would be a good idea to listen to your child’s concerns, validate them but then focus on your child simply trying to do their best. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact your classroom teacher.

Applications for parents wishing to enrol children in Foundation and other classes at Sacred Heart School for the 2023 school year are now open. Sacred Heart Open Day will be held on Wednesday, 18th May, with student led tours throughout the day and a parent information session at 9:30am and again at 5:30pm.  Anyone interested in seeing all our school has to offer is welcome to come along. Please go to our website or phone the school for further information. If unable to attend our School Open Day, please feel free to make an appointment to view our excellent teaching and learning environment at a suitable time.

A reminder that it is expected that all students will be in full winter school uniform by the beginning of next week, Week 3. Please see the school website for the uniform list.  Hats are optional. Thank you parents for making sure that children come to school each day dressed in correct uniform. Our uniform plays an important part in setting the culture of our school and I really appreciate your support on this.

Congratulations to Hugh Murdoch on receiving the Principal's Award in Week 10 last term.   Hugh received the Award for showing great school spirit, for always being his best, always has a warm and welcoming smile, and helps out willingly when there is a need.

Congratulations to Alby Borzillo on receiving the Principal's Award in the last week of Term 1. Alby continually displays our PBIS expectations and has particularly demonstrated the PBIS pillar of being resilient.  Alby is very inclusive of everyone and happily goes about helping others.  Thank you to both Hugh and Alby for being your best.

The first Principal's Award for Term Two was presented to Bonnie O’Shannessy. Bonnie is an enthusiastic, inquisitive and motivated learner who is always interested in what she is learning. She gives everything she tries her very, very best. Bonnie is kind and caring towards others and makes sure everyone feels included. Congratulations Bonnie.

I’d like to wish all the Mums, grandmothers and special women in our lives, a very happy Mother’s Day for Sunday.
