THS Performing Arts
Rehearsals for Thornbury High's "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" are officially underway! With the show performing in just under two months, the excitement from everyone involved is unwrapping (just like a chocolate bar!).
From learning lines and choreography, to fun games and chaotic physical and vocal warmups, there is never a dull moment with the MARS-velous cast and crew behind the scenes. Determination and hardwork are just a few words to describe the tremendous effort the team has been putting in. With the show starting to take shape, we've got a few TWIX up our sleeves that we just can't wait for you to see!
So come with us, take a spin and open your eyes to paradise and a world of pure imagination…

The Real Inspector Hound
For the Year 12 Theatre class, the past 9 weeks have been busy. Much of our class time (and time outside of school, too) was dedicated to preparing for our final performance: The Real Inspector Hound. On Friday of week 9, that hard work paid off. Even from backstage, it was clear how much the audience enjoyed the show, and every one of my classmates deserved the standing ovation they received. Personally, I found it bittersweet. Whilst putting on the show was an absolute blast, more fun than I’ve ever had in previous years, I’m a little sad that it was the last time I’ll be able to get on stage with some of my closest friends. I’m certain that I'll cherish the good memories, though, and I hope I remember how proud I am of my class for a job well done.

Strawbale Studio Concert
Since my first performance in Year 7 the Strawbale Concert has been an annual highlight for me and this year, my sixth and final, was no exception. The atmosphere was festive and the bands performed spectacularly. The evening, hosted by our wonderful school captains Tess, Harvey, Mia and Sarah, was opened beautifully by the Vocal Ensemble. The Yr 8 and Yr 8 Extension and Intermediate bands all showed the impressive dedication of younger year levels with their fantastic performances. The Concert, Stage, VCE bands and Wild Strings showed once again the high standard of musicianship at Thornbury High. The sneak preview of our musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory also had the audience cheering!
My highlight of the night was seeing a record number, 123, Year 7s, play perennial crowd favourites, Hot Cross Buns and We Will Rock You. Every year, when I hear these songs I remember the excitement of being part of such a big band for the first time. The sense of community I have enjoyed performing at these concerts, and the dedication of our amazing music teachers, are things I will miss most.
