Principal's Report

Victorian Young Leaders to India Pilot Program

I am delighted to confirm that we have four Year 9 students: Jessica J, Isabella T, Amy R and Dana B participating in the Victorian Young Leaders to India (VYL India) Pilot Program.  Ms Carly Sayer will accompany these students to both the local and in-country elements of the program.  A huge thanks to Ms Jodie Purches for her efforts in securing our place in the program and navigating all the ‘paperwork’.  We look forward to hearing of your adventures and learnings post the September in-country component of the program.

Connecting with the Community

I was delighted to be invited to share a meal with our local community, police and students at UMMA Centre in East Doncaster.  Bianca K. (Year 12 Social Justice Captain), Taylah E (Year 12 Respectful Relationships Captain), Neil N (Year 11 Class Leader), Thomas S (Year 11 Class Leader) and Arshiya A, (Year 10) accompanied me to the dinner and I couldn’t have been prouder of the way in which the students represented our college.  A highlight for me was the address by Inspector Peter Cooper New Zealand Police outlining the impact of the recent massacre in the Christchurch mosque.  He gave a firsthand account of what he personally has been dealing with and the impact on his community.  It was a very moving event and I was very honoured to be invited to attned with our students.

Manningham Citizen of the Year 2019

This award recognises the outstanding contributions made by a Manningham resident to improve the lives of our local community.  The contribution can be made in any area that demonstrates a long term commitment to community service, community innovation, philanthropy or volunteer work.  Selwyn Shahine was nominated for this prestigious award and was recognised at the Annual Awards Ceremony that was held on 22 May at the Manningham Civic Centre. Salwyn has been a volunteer over the last ten years and he has been an exceptional friend and advocate for our students and school.  His impact extends beyond his establishment of our school Interact Club.  There are many students – too many to count, who have benefitted from his advice and direction.  Relationships with students have extended beyond their time at DSC and continued long into their Uni and adult life.

On behalf of current and past DSC community, I would like to extend our gratitude for all that you do and congratulate you on your acknowledgement at this important community event.
