Girls in Property

During the last week of last term. Grace Palmer (Year 10) attended the review of the Girls in Property program held at the Rialto Hotel, Melbourne. The morning session gathered students who attended last year, asking them to review the program, make recommendations for this year’s programs and participate in development sessions. This was a fabulous opportunity for Grace to work with student from other schools in partnership with business leaders and industry professionals to develop new strategies to encourage young women into the all areas connected to the property industry.

Students from MGSC will again have the opportunity to sign-up to attend this year’s event which highlights the vast array of potential career possibilities including design, trades and construction, legal sectors, engineering, computer programming, communications, languages and so many more.

Biggest Morning Tea

On the last day of Term 2 the Student Leaders and SRC Committee hosted morning tea for staff as an Australia's Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser. It was a huge success. Money was raised for cancer research. The staff and students enjoyed the large variety and delicious food offerings and everyone was able to mix, chat and catch-up in an informal setting.

VIC SRC Congress 2019

Once again, we took part in the Vic SRC Congress 2019, which is a three-day camp that highlights student voice and leadership. The camp started with the action market where multiple students expressed important issues to them, but was reduced back to the top 12.

From there, students broke up into different groups and spent the next three days preparing and working on their projects for the open morning; which was attended by all delegates, stakeholders, parents, teachers, principals, parliamentary representatives including Tim Richardson, MP and the Minister of Education, The Hon. James Merlino. Each topic was then pitched and voted upon to determine the top five which would then continue to be worked on by Victorian Student executive members.

It is because of Congress we now have student representatives on school councils and on the VCAA Board. Furthermore, we participated in various workshops and took part in the games night (which we won) and dressed up in Disney characters for the gala dinner. As always, the event was highly successful with a turnout of about 200 students from across Victoria and overall, it was a rewarding and interesting experience.
