You are in our thoughts

I would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all those who have assisted in keeping our neighbours in Gippsland safe during the recent bushfires.  To the grand gestures of sacrifice of our emergency services, to the invaluable assistance of local food suppliers to those that have assisted in evacuation and accommodation needs.

Our thoughts are with those affected.  If you require support please ensure you cast out a gesture of 'help' as we are here for you.

COMPASS is here

Welcome to CSPS COMPASS.  We are very excited about embarking on the COMPASS journey.  The main aim for introducing COMPASS is to centralise communication ie. move existing apps and tools into one portal.  In the initial stages, CSPS will introduce the following tools:

  • Access information regarding upcoming events and news
  • View up-to-date class and school attendance information
  • Access your child's Student Progress and Semester Reports

Future tools may include:

  • Approve or enter upcoming or past absences for your son/daughter
  • Download, print and approve upcoming excursions
  • Book your Parent/Student/Teacher conferences

Existing communication tools will eventually be phased out over the year.  Further information to follow.

Bullying Blitz

Bullying No Way - Friday 150319

Every school has bullying; any school that says they don't is not being honest.  Every day children are developing skills and strategies in how to positively interact with each other as well as adults in how to empower and strengthen our students/children.

With Bullying NO WAY day on 15th, March 2019, CSPS is undertaking a Bullying Blitz for the next 4 weeks.  This will entail a whole school approach including:

  • a shared, common language used around bullying
  • what bullying is and is not
  • a greater understanding of what being a bystander means

A terrific start to the Bullying No Way Blitz is learning the difference between rude, mean and bullying.

Is it rude, mean or bullying?

  • Rude = Inadvertently saying or doing something that hurts someone else.
  • Mean = Purposefully saying or doing something to hurt someone once (or maybe twice.)
  • Bullying = Intentionally aggressive behavior, repeated over time, that involves an imbalance of power.  Bullying may be physical, verbal, relational, or carried out via technology.

Zones of Regulation:  A Framework for Emotional Regulation

What are the Zones?

The Zones is a systematic, cognitive behavioural approach used to teach self-regulation by categorising all the different ways we feel and states of alertness we experience into four concrete coloured zones.  The Zones framework provides strategies to teach students to become more aware of and independent in controlling their emotions and impulses, manage their sensory needs, and improve their ability to problem solve conflicts.

What Zone are you in?

This is a question asked regularly in our classrooms. Zones of Regulation is a framework that all classrooms use to assist students with emotional regulation.  Acknowledging which zone students are in is followed up by developing a toolbox of strategies to assist emotional regulation with the goal of getting back to the green zone.

Working Bee:  Saturday, 230219

A huge thank you to the wonderful staff and families that attended our working bee on Saturday, 23 February 2019.

Lots of painting, clearing, tidying and garden work was completed.  The wire structure was removed from the front of our school and the Learning Support centre has new displays and chalkboard areas for children to write and draw.

Working bees occur each term throughout the year and we would encourage as many people to attend as possible.

Many hands make light work and the results are spectacular!

Thank you everyone for your support.
