College Production of Grease

This year we had around 70 students from across the three campuses who worked closely with staff throughout the year to bring together the production of Grease. The decision was made to double cast the production, as we found that there is so much talent across the college and we wanted to provide as many opportunities as possible for students to showcase their skills. This meant that some of the roles had two students playing the same character and they alternated performances. Both casts had outstanding performers that brought the story of Rydell High School in the 1950s to life with the accompaniment of a live band, performed by Copperfield students.

I would like to sincerely thank all of the parents, staff, students and other members of the school community who have assisted the development of Grease along the way. Without the school community backing us, projects like this are impossible to run, so your support has been greatly appreciated.

I can safely say that that college is very proud of all of the students involved in this production, whether it be performing, assisting backstage or playing an instrument, for what they have achieved and how far they have grown throughout the development process. We are extremely lucky to be able to work with such responsible and talented young people.

We look forward to future productions at Copperfield College and always remember that ‘grease is the word’!

International Student Snow Day - Lake Mountain

International students had a fantastic day in Lake Mountain on 19 July. For many, it was their first encounter with snow and High Country Victoria as Lake Mountain is a very popular snow resort for Melbournians due to its relatively close distance and easy access. It was also an opportunity for the students to have fun and get to know each other.

The students started early in the day as they were heading Northeast and leaving sleepy suburbs behind. They familiarised themselves with the such the locations as Diamond Creek and Kangaroo Ground where kangaroos hang out in pack and warm themselves under early sunlight; Healesville for a taste of amazing country pie; Black Spur for a windy drive, overgrowth forest and fast flowing water; and finally Lake Mountain, for many exciting and engaging activities awaiting ahead.

Flying fox was definitely a new and challenging experience. Having put on protective gear and harnesses, students were truly amazing mountaineer lookalikes. The students demonstrated their ability to follow safety instructions securely and safely using their harness before and after the fly. They really had to overcome their fear of height and speed, and embark for a big jump. The 240m dual flying fox is truly scary and fun.

Tobogganing was always a significant part of the trip. Swift slide and rollover, time and time again along the toboggan run, students couldn’t get enough of it until it was time to leave. It was an awesome experience and a fabulous day.
