College Principal Message

School Council

I would like to welcome our new School Council members: Parents – Melissa Morrison and Renee Pavlovic; DET – Getti Spence; Community - Evan Henry (from WPC); Greg George (from ABCN); and Student – Dina Hamdi. Thank you also to outgoing members; Tony Prosia (Parent member and President); Jo Spence (Community member); and Ashraf Anwar (Student member). Tony has been part of our Council since 2010 and President since 2014. We greatly appreciate the time he has put in and the support he has provided. Jo has been a critical support person in our fantastic partnership with Sunshine Hospital (Western Health). This partnership has, and will continue to, provide our Senior VCAL students with authentic project-based learning opportunities that benefit themselves and the community.

Student Destinations

In 2018 91% of students who applied received an offer of a Tertiary place through the VTAC. The table below shows the main course categories our students were accepted into. The areas are listed in order of the number of offers. You can see that while students are accessing a wide range of courses there remains a clear emphasis on STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) related courses. The largest destination was RMIT with 80 students receiving offers.

Courses
1. Maths/Science/Engineering/Medical
2. Business/Commerce
3. Health Science/Nursing/Sport
4. Information Communication Technology
5. Legal/Criminology
6. Arts / Social Science
7. Education
8. Visual Arts/Design

Capital Works Funding

In May last year we were informed that we were receiving a grant of $3.5million to support building refurbishment. It has taken a while but we are finally at the point where I can confirm that the money will be spent on replacing the roofs on the Administration and Arts blocks at the Delahey campus. The roof design has meant that there are constant leaks which cannot be permanently addressed by our plumbers. The work is not expected to commence until around November. If there is money left over it will be spent at the Sydenham Campus.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Lastly, a reminder that Parent/Teacher Interviews were at Delahey (Wednesday April 3) and Junior Campuses (Thursday April 4).  Interim Reports are available through COMPASS. It was good to see so many of our parents taking the opportunity to discuss their child’s progress with their teachers. We encourage parents to be involved in their children's education as we know your involvement will improve their outcomes.

If you have misplaced you COMPASS login details please contact one of our Campus offices.

Staff Leaving

I wish to acknowledge the contribution of two staff members who are leaving us.

Phil Coloca has been successful in gaining a secondment to the Department helping with the implementation of their Middle Year Literacy & Numeracy Strategy. Phil started with Copperfield in 2007 and has worked across all campuses as an English teacher, Leading Teacher and for the past four years has been Campus Principal at the Sydenham Campus. He has been a key leader in developing our journey towards becoming a Professional Learning Community. Phil will be missed by students and staff and we hope to see him back with us in 2021.  In the meantime we wish him all the best and thank him for his significant contributions to our school.

Jude Ryan has been supporting our students as a Campus Leader and an English and Media teacher at the Kings Park and Delahey Campuses  - also since 2007. Jude is retiring and I thank her for all her work with our students and wish her all the best for the next phase of her life.
