Middle School Report

Middle School News

Parents are a very important component in our community. They have decided to send their child to WHSC and many undertake roles such as school council members or working in the uniform shop at our school. However, parents work behind the scenes at home, trying to provide support for their child with homework, extra-curricular activities and social supports. As your child moves through these turbulent teenage years the responsibility of doing many things for the child to helping them become independent learners is the most obvious. Add also into the mix technology and social media, parents have a lot to contend with. Luckily, technology also provide supports for parents such as support groups, networks and speakers.

If you need any support in areas within the family the City of Monash has this service available.

Year 7

Elevate came to the Year 7’s this week and talked about Time Management and Organisation. Students were actively involved, looking at techniques that they can apply to all areas of their study. Please speak about what activities your child completed in the session and how they can use it to help them study.

Year 8

The first group of Year 8 (A&F) visited the Monash Tech School. On the first day they were given a complete tour of Monash University in action. The students were able to visit areas where research and development were in action. They looked at new initiatives for sustainability and recycling. The students were shown areas in ways the new buildings were being developed to help the environment. In one area the students were shown how the scientists were using 3D printing in making things like a bike or finding different materials that will help in being super conductors and insulators so that things such as mobile phones can work efficiently. The students could see where the initiative of a bicycle garage is free, where if you ride your bike you can store your bike safely and showering rooms are provided if required. The bus hub is the largest one in Victoria to promote less cars being on the road and many buses flow through the area regularly and some are free.
