Stage 1 Big Write

Last week, the Years 1 and 2 students (Stage 1) completed a narrative about Christmas for their Big Write.  The learning space was filled with festive decorations which created excitement among the students and helped spark their creativity.

The writing prompt reminded the students to include interesting sentence openers, compound sentences, descriptive words and punctuation in their writing.  Please enjoy reading three of their stories presented below:

Santa's Presents

by Leilah Leech

It was the day before Christmas and the elves were still working on the presents.  Santa was eating cookies with a glass of milk.  Next to him was a little elf called Eleanna who was reading all the toy lists that got sent to him.   One day the factory broke down.  Santa's most nicest little helper went to tell Santa.  He said "Tell the helpers to check the factory," and then he went to Mrs Claus and told her the whole thing, but Mrs Claus wasn't listening.  She was too busy  making cookies for Santa so he rushed to his office.  He made a potion to shrink one of his elves ... 'Tip!'  He carefully put the little elf in his factory but that didn't work.  Rudolph put his nose in the factory but that didn't work either.  Then everyone in the North Pole kept thinking.  When the elves worked together their magic made the factory work again and Santa got to deliver the presents in time.

The Gigantic Thunderstorm

by Drake Umali

On Christmas Eve me and my friend Jake were eating some cookies at his house.  Suddenly, a frightening thud came.  We checked it out and we saw poor old Santa with a broken sleigh.  We went to help Santa.  We said "What happened Santa?" and Santa said to us "A gigantic storm came and crashed into my sleigh."  We said "Calm down Santa, we'll save your sleigh." So we tried to fix the sleigh with a wrench and hammer and a screwdriver.  We worked hard and finally we saved the day.

Christmas Eve

by Jacob Mihell

On Christmas Eve night my family were celebrating when suddenly "Ho, Ho, Ho!" came from outside our home.  I went outside to check and saw Santa but his sleigh was frozen!

I grabbed a hammer to break the ice but that didn't work.  Santa lost his hat so I looked for it in a pile of dirt.  I found the hat and I also found a shovel so I tried to break the ice with the shovel but that didn't work.

Next Santa and I got a big, long stick and hit the ice but that didn't work.

Finally I had a really good idea.  I went to get some boiling hot water and then I tipped it on the ice.  That melted it!  All the kids in the world got their presents.  It was the best Christmas day ever.
