Subject Selection

The usual timeline for the subject selection process is that we have a careers expo and parent information evening early in Term 3 followed by individual course counselling sessions. This year we are going to have to be a bit creative in how we deliver the information to students and parents given the disruption to learning.

The careers expo has been cancelled for this year and students are being encouraged by our College Careers Counsellor, Mandy Ellwood, to be aware that the Universities are conducting virtual open days. See the Pathways section of the newsletter for further information about what's on offer.

Due to the lack of clarity around when we will return to on-campus learning and how long social distancing will apply, we may conduct our parent information and course counselling sessions remotely.

By the end of the term, senior secondary students will receive the pathways handbook which will contain all the information and timelines pertaining to 2021 subject selection. Please take time to read through this handbook with your son/daughter.

Traditional assessments have been difficult to conduct during this time of online/remote learning. Our teachers have been trialling some creative ways, using technology to collect valid feedback on student learning. The technology does not always work for everyone and this has resulted in the teachers and students coming up with innovative solutions. We understand that, in this new and unchartered environment some students will be feeling rather stressed about their achievement. We are working through this and students will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their learning when we return to on-campus learning.

Our exams for Year 10 and Unit 1 would usually be conducted in Term 2, however with the disruption to learning and remote learning we will restructure these when we have more clarity about our return to on-campus learning.
