Royal Flying Doctors Visit

Last Friday we had a visit from the Royal Flying Doctors Service as part of our Inquiry unit for Term 1 on Personal, Social and Community Health.  Tom from the RFDS told us about the importance of the service and about a girl called Sarah from Menindee NSW and how the RFDS helped her when she has a snake bite.  Tom also told us about John Flynn who is the man that got the RFDS up and running.  John Flynn is on the twenty dollar note along with pictures of the first RFDS plane.  We also learnt about the history of the School of the Air which was also created by members of the RFDS.

Mrs Fletcher: Inquiry

This term in Inquiry, we are learning about Personal, Social and Community Health.  We will be covering personal hygiene, how to keep ourselves safe and healthy at school and places and people to keep us healthy and safe in the community.  As a part of this learning we have had a visit from the Royal Flying Doctors with a medical simulator on Friday 21 Feb and a visit from St Johns Frist Aid on Friday 14 Feb.  We started off the inquiry learning by brainstorming personal health such as good hygiene practices.  Children learnt the importance of brushing their teeth twice a day and all received toothbrush and sample toothpaste.

Mr Lindsay: Personal Learning

In week 2, students in the Junior School took part in their first Personal Learning session. The purpose of Personal Learning sessions is to enable students to understand themselves and others, and manage their relationships, lives, work and learning more effectively. Over the next few weeks students are being introduced to the Zones Of Regulation. Zones of Regulation is a cognitive behaviour approach which supports students to recognise when they are in different states called “zones”. There are four zones, each represented by a different colour. More information about this program will be sent home over the term.

Mrs Wells: Digital Technologies

In Digital Technologies, students have identified digital technology and devices used in their everyday lives and have learnt about the difference between hardware and software. They have learnt about the parts of the computer and their function and how some parts of the computer input information such as the keyboard and some output information such as the printer. Prep students are learning how to use the computers and have practised logging on to Mathletics using the QR code on their Mathletics passwords.

Art Smocks

A reminder to parents and students to please bring an art smock or old shirt to school to protect clothing during art classes. The materials we use can sometimes be a little messy and we're sure parents would appreciate not having school uniform permanently stained! Art smocks will remain in the art room and be returned at the end of the year.
