Mr Irwin's Message

Term 1 Week 5

Hello families and welcome to this week’s edition of the newsletter. There’s some opportunities for parent involvement I want to talk about this week that may be of interest to you. We are so fortunate to receive really strong support from our parent group throughout the year in many facets of school life.

On Thursday the 27th (this Thursday), the Annual General meeting of the Parent’s Club is happening at school. The Parent's Club are keen for some new faces as they look to organise some events across the school year. Last year the Parents' Club coordinated termly lunches and events such as Father’s Day and Mother’s Day stalls and the Halloween Disco. These events were thoroughly enjoyed by our students.  These events do take a few hands to co-ordinate and can become time consuming and hard work if they fall to too few. Even if you volunteer to help out with one of these events during the year this would go a long way to ensuring when the Parent’s Club do run events they are well supported.

Classrooms will again be on the lookout for classroom helpers this year. Miss Kearney and Mr Maskell will be the Junior and Senior school contacts for parent helpers this year. In a few weeks Miss Kearney will run a classroom helper induction session, which is a requirement to attend if you’d like to be a classroom helper this year. Keep an eye out for an announcement about this soon. We received an overwhelming amount of help in the Junior School last year and would love this to spill into the senior classes too. Teachers have expressed a keen interest in getting parent helpers in to support students particularly in the reading hour in the mornings.

Tonight we have our first school council meeting. It was fantastic to receive five nominations for school council, which filled the five vacancies we had. This meant we did not require a ballot like we did last year. Congratulations to Claire Morrison and Natalie Schwuch who will return to council and welcome to John Howlett, Amy Gormley and Julia Ladgrove who are all joining our School Council.

I’m grateful parents have put their hand up to support our school in this manner.  As the year unfolds keep an eye out on Facebook for opportunities that might pop up for parent contributions too. Be it sports days, help in the garden, working bees or even fixing table tops to tables last year I was blown away and grateful for parent support we received. Please get involved as you can this year as it does make for a vibrant and positive school community.
