Walk 2 School Success!!

During October, 21 Darebin schools participated in Walk 2 School month.  That means 20 other schools did exactly as we did, encouraged students and families to walk to school and recorded these walks and then celebrated at the end of the month.

Of all the schools that participated, Pender's Grove had the 2nd best participation rate 50.7% ... that's right, the 2nd best.

And guess who had the BEST participation rate up from 29.3% last year to 51.8% this year ... that's right, it was us - St Mary's Thornbury!!!!!

We have won Samba School Workshops for all classes by world renowned Samba performer Neda Rahmani!!

Can I say a huge congratulations to all the students who walked, scooted and rode to school during October (and throughout the year), I hope you enjoy these workshops!!

And thank you to the parents and families who made the extra special effort each morning to get up earlier and walk/ride to school as a family.

Many of the teachers have commented on how a simple act of walking and riding to school improved students learning capacity first thing in the morning, and it makes sense to me.  Getting some physical activity in before school has fantastic benefits for the brain - increasing blood flow and stimulating brain plasticity - to name a few (a good article on this can be found at https://www.brainhq.com/brain-resources/everyday-brain-fitness/physical-exercise).

Thanks again for your support, and well done St Mary's!!

Merry Christmas from your P&F

Thank you to the entire community for supporting our fundraising efforts in 2018.  We are also grateful for all the feedback we have received throughout the year and for your enthusiastic adoption of our new cashless system QKR! which enables us to run events more efficiently, allows you to order from the comfort of your own home or office and, most importantly, raise even more funds for our children.

Please take the time to join us in thanking every parent who volunteered in 2018.  If you ran an event, provided support or donated to our silent auction, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

The P&F is run by volunteers.  We are all parents.  We are also employees or employers, carers and volunteers.  We are all, like you, juggling all the balls all the time.  Without the generous time given by you, so often, we would not be able to provide hot food days, raffles, food drives or the dinner dance.  We would not have made $36,883.08 (THAT"S INCREDIBLE THANKS HEAPS FROM DINO)  in 2018 which goes back to all children.

Thank you to Jess and Michelle for organising the pizza day and making a profit of $915.50 and also to Nadia and Polly for organising the Cherry Drive, which made a profit of $745.00.

In 2019, we will be reaching out to all parents to provide support for our fete.  You can provide support on the day and beforehand by sourcing donations or nominating a business for sponsorship

https://smt2019fetecommittee.typeform.com/to/ySwli2 organising stalls, spreading the word and making sure our fete is the biggest and best in the inner north!

We will also be seeking volunteers to run food days or events, all made much easier now with QKR! eliminating the need for our time-poor volunteers to receipt and sort forms and money.

From next week, you can also sign up to the parent contact list https://smt2019fetecommittee.typeform.com/to/UJYL2E  for your child’s class via an online survey so you can catch up with your child’s new classmates over the holidays and help your child get to know his or her new classmates!

The St Mary’s P&F wishes you and your families a happy Christmas and safe holiday break.  See you all in 2019!
