Destiny Day

On Tuesday 16 October we held our 4th annual ‘Destiny Day’. Many lives in Thailand will be greatly impacted by HCC’s outstanding ability to ‘influence the world’. As we joined together we raised a total of over $2000 for Destiny Rescue, an International, Christian based, non-profit organisation dedicated to rescuing children from human trafficking.

We began the day with Mr Peter Cliffe, Zoë Porteous and myself sharing at assembly of our previous experiences of visiting the Destiny Home and Orphanage while on Year 12 Thailand missions trips. The day also included lots of yummy goods such as sausages, curry puffs and baked treats. A big, special thanks to Mrs Gupta, Chef, Mrs Gover, Mr Eastman, the missions prefects and all the Year 7 girls involved, who invested time and energy to make the day happen with great success.

Destiny Day is an opportunity for our community to make a difference in the world; following in the footsteps of Christ by generously giving what we can to help our sisters & brothers in Christ.

We look forward to hearing more about all Destiny rescue is doing in the children’s lives and of the Year 12’s experiences visiting Destiny Rescue’s home this year.

Destiny Day Bake Sale

Under the guidance of Bethany Childs (Year 12), some of our Year 7 girls ran a bake sale on Tuesday 16 October to raise funds for Destiny Rescue.

It was an outstanding success and effort and just over $500 was raised for this important cause. Well done and a BIG thank you goes to Bethany Childs, Elmarie De Beer, Elena Man, Jemma Scott, Tesia Haggai, Taylor Nel, Samantha Utley, Sophia Jones and Kate Hardaker; your servant heart in serving God is appreciated.

New Caledonia Trip

Last term (from 28 September to 5 October) Madame Youssef, Mr Darren John and some of the Year 8/9 students went on a fantastic trip to New Caledonia. This was a great opportunity for the students to go and live for a week on a tropical French Island in the Pacific Ocean.

The students were immersed in the French culture and language. They had to communicate in French in daily situations during excursions, at school, in the market at the hotel, as well as dealing with money. Another aspect of the trip was CREIPAC (the Language School). Our students had 12-hour intensive French classes, mostly oral, that suited their year level to increase confidence and fluency. Below are some of the students recount on their experience:

Joelle Delosa

In French this year, we learnt about our family, house, food and how to order at a restaurant. It was very helpful when we went on our amazing trip to New Caledonia. I had a lot of fun with my friends overseas and learnt a lot about French culture. This year has been very fun.

Ashleigh Domaschenz

In French this year, we were able to go on an amazing trip to New Caledonia. It really improved my speaking and understanding of the language.

Grace Lisbon

New Caledonia was a great experience for me. I loved being in weather that is actually hot and being in a place where the culture is so different yet beautiful. I enjoyed spending time and bonding with my friends and teachers in a lovely country.

Grade 4 'Year in the Yard'

As part of our Year in the Yard, the Grade 4 students are learning a lot about recycling.

Each week they manage the school’s recycling bins, and they even made their own paper! Students turned recycled paper into pulp, added it to water to make a slurry and then used special frames called a mould and deckle to make their own paper.

Music News

Here we are again at the start of the final school term and what a busy time this is shaping up to be. Currently we are in preparation for the Spring Concert. Combining with the Heatherton Creates Arts Festival, our concert will showcase the amazing and talented creativity at Heatherton Christian College, focusing on the many different ensemble groups that rehearse weekly. Please be aware that we are unable to have students doing solo performances in this concert.
