Year 12 Parent Information Night – Applying for University & TAFE
Current Year 12’s will be able to apply for University and further education courses later this year. VTAC are the organisation that manages applying for these offers. While all University courses require applying through VTAC not all TAFE or private training colleges do. We will be holding an information night at 7:30pm on Wednesday 31st July in the Senior Learning Centre for parents of Year 12’s who are interested in having the option of applying. Generally, this is VCE students, however there are some courses that some VCAL students may be interested in applying for.
Beacon Foundation’s Perform program – Tuesday 30th July
On Tuesday 30th July, all of our Year 12 VCAL students will be participating in a fantastic whole-day program courtesy of the Beacon Foundation. The program, called ‘Perform’, is designed specifically to support young people embarking on crucial decisions about their life after school. Beacon is generously providing this program free to our students. Later in the year, Year 11 VCAL students too will participate in it (on Tues. October 15th).
Perform is a high energy one-day program delivered by a professional Beacon Facilitator and supported by the participation of industry mentors from our local community. This powerful combination ensures the students are engaged in and receiving practical, real-world tools that can be implemented immediately after completing the program. Workshop topics include understanding workplace expectations, working effectively within a team, personal branding, interview techniques, recruitment processes, resume preparation and personality profiling. Students will be bringing permission forms home in the coming days. All Year 12 VCAL students are expected to participate.
University Open Days
August is Open Day season for Universities, TAFE’s and other training providers. Open Days are ideal for students (and parents of students) in Years 10-12 to attend. Year 9 Students
Parents will be aware that last term most Year 9’s completed an online career aptitude and interest survey. Not all students finished these, however. It would be a great shame to not make the most of this and the subsequent career interview with a trained counsellor that will use these results. It’s entirely the student’s responsibility to log on to www.morrisby.com and do so if
