WELCOME BACK

A warm welcome is extended to all students returning for Term 3. A special welcome goes out to the group of new students who have commenced with us, some from the Shepparton English Learning Centre and others who have recently moved into the town. On Monday, staff from all four secondary schools came together at Wanganui Park to commence the development of the all-important curriculum offerings from Year 7 to Year 10 during the transition phase of the Greater Shepparton College (interim name) and then to the new school. This was a successful start to a number of meetings of learning areas across the four schools for the rest of this year.

PARENT OPINION SURVEY

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 22nd July to Sunday 11th August. The Parent Opinion Survey log in details will be mailed out to the randomly selected parents/guardians later this week.

The survey will be conducted online, it will only take 10 – 15 minutes to complete and can be accessed at any convenient time within in the period above on desktop computers, laptops, tables or smartphones. The result will be reported back to the school at the end of September.

BUS TRAVEL 2020

A form has been given to all students regarding bus travel intentions in 2020. All students/ families who think they may require bus travel in 2020,  including those currently using a service or those who do not access bus services in 2019 but may need to do so in 2020 due to change of circumstances or change of campus, are requested to complete and return the form to the main office of your school by Friday 26th July 2019. Please contact the office if you have not received a form.

END-OF-SEMESTER REPORTS

At the end of Term 2, staff completed reports on all students. These reports were uploaded onto XUNO and have been accessed by many parents using their XUNO username and password. However, we have noticed that there are still a significant number of parents who have not seen these reports. If you are having trouble accessing these reports or have lost your XUNO access codes, please contact the Main Office for assistance

CHANGES TO PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEW SESSIONS

Last year we trialled a new series of P/T interviews with two evening sessions, one in the second last week of Term 3 and the other in the last week. Our indicators show that this change made very little difference to our uptake of interviews and so we have decided to revert to the original set-up. So P/T interviews will take place on Thursday, 19th September, from 4:30pm to 7:30pm and again on Friday morning, 20th September, from 9am to 12 noon. This is the last week of Term 3. Parents will be able to book interviews later this term. You will be given plenty of notice for this.

GV PASSPORT

Term 3 sees our annual GV PASSPORT program take place. Year 9 students will be heading to the Bullion Bar in their House groups for a double period commencing Tuesday, 27th August (Bates and Chisholm) and Tuesday, 3rd September (Kenny and Melba). The GV PASSPORRT program is a health promotion activity that focuses on building students’ knowledge and understanding of Drugs & Alcohol. The program is striving to enhance informed decision making, focusing on healthy relationships and safety around drugs and alcohol. Students will be participating in small group learning activities, facilitated by professionals from Primary Care Connect, GV Area Mental Health, School Nurses and Victoria Police.  Socially skilled young people make better choices when it comes to making decisions about their health. This is an “opt-out” program so if you do not wish your child to attend this session, please contact the Main Office.
