June saw our Semester 1 classes come to an end and we celebrated by doing some baking.

We have included some pictures of Year 9 Multi-Cultural Munching student’s visiting the U.S.A with Choc Chip Ice-cream Sandwiches.

Year 8 Edible Gift students made Queen of Heart Biscuits to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday.

Semester 2 is in full swing now and we would like to welcome the students and remind them to come to class equipped.

Year 7 and 8 students are required to purchase a Food Studies Booklet from the General Office as soon as possible please. Year 9 and 10 students are reminded to have a display folder, exercise book/folder and writing material and computer. Please bring a container to the production classes so you can take your products home to share.

We have highlighted some competitive cooking with our Year 8 Master Chef Elective (see photos). Students took on the challenge of mastering pancakes with great success.

This followed with a Red Apron versus Blue Apron kitchen management challenge when they cooked Baked Egg Tarts. The winners were Blue Aprons! Students then created their own Baked Egg Tart (see recipe) with mystery ingredients. See the winning results. All students in the MasterChef class rise to the challenges with great success.

The Food Studies VCE classes have focused on issues for the first part of Semester 2. Some of the issues were Food Security with Australia’s growing population, Environmental Issues with plastic packaging and Ethical Concerns with our food production and palm oil and animal rights.
