Patterson River Secondary College had 1 representative that ran in the State Cross Country event in Bundoora on Thursday 19th July.

It’s with great pride to be able to share with the College community, that Hayley Ponchard of Year 7 ran a wonderful race finishing 46th out of 96 runners with a finishing time of 12:52.

A fantastic result for such an incredible motivated athlete.  Congratulations Hayley. You should be extremely proud of yourself.

Year 7 Sport - Fitness Class

During the past 2 weeks, the Year 7 sport fitness/running/athletics class has had the privilege of John Baldock come and give the class some expertise on running technique and how to be more efficient runners.

John has been involved in Surf Lifesaving, in particular beach sprinting and beach flags, for many years and has trained athletes to go on to win Australian Gold Medals in both beach sprinting and beach flags. He has also had some involvement in past Olympic track athletes.  He too has been a champion of the sport. John assisted the class with the proper way to start out of the blocks and guided them on how important balance is and how to improve their overall style.

It was a pleasure to have John join our class and pass on some of his expertise.

Year 7 Intermediate Boys Soccer

Throughout term two, 49 Year 7 boys trained during sport times working towards representing the school. All boys worked well in the drills, skills and games.

On Monday 25th June 14 boys represented the school in the 'A' competition and 14 boys in the 'B' competition. Each team played in 3 separate games throughout the day. All students displayed persistence towards the game and competed with great sportsmanship.

A big thanks to Mrs Perpina for her expertise on the day.

Congratulations to the boys that represented the school on the day.

Year 8 Girls Netball

On Thursday 27th June, Patterson River was represented by 2 teams playing in the Year 8 Netball Competition.  As the girls had had 5 training sessions throughout the term, we were going in very well prepared.

We were blessed with wonderful weather and the girls had a spring in their step and were ready to take on whatever was thrown at them.

Both teams played their hearts out and represented the college with pride.  Not only were they great sportswomen, but they accepted all umpiring decisions and adapted well to the changing game plans.

The 'A' team had a wonderful day out by winning 4 out of their 5 games. Only losing 1 game by 1 point was tough to take.  The 'A' team ended up coming second on the day.  They all played beautifully together.

The 'B' team had a day of mixed results.  They drew 2 games and lost 4 games.  Again these girls had a big day and turned up to the start of each game with purpose and hungry to win.

It was a pleasure to take these girls' teams out as they all were perfectly behaved and lovely to spend the day with.  A big thank you to Ms Otto for her help on the day too.

Stay Sporty.
