Orientation day at Patterson River Secondary College will commence at 9.00am in the Performing Arts Centre (PAC) with the Principal's welcome, with parents welcomed to stay.

Students will participate in the following:

  • Meet their class for 2018
  • Meet mentor teacher and key teachers for 2018
  • Tour of  the school
  • Participate in two lessons
  • Meet our senior student peer support groups
  • Find out about the uniform
  • Learn about what they will be doing in their first year

Students are encouraged to ask plenty of questions throughout the day as this will help with their transition into secondary school. Students will  be dissmissed from the PAC at 3pm.

Patterson River Secondary College Transition Team

Transition into secondary school is a period of change that can be both challenging and exciting. At PRSC we believe that a successful and positve transition from primary school into secondary school plays great importance in our students engagement and success for not only year 7, but for longevity, achievements and long term results throughout their secondary school career.

Starting Secondary School

The move from primary to secondary school is a major milestone for your child. It's a time of big changes in their development, education and life. You can have confidence that your child's future is in good hands in a Victorian government school. We are committed to ensuring we are giving our kids the education that business & industries will need, and the skills that employers will expect them to have.

Secondary school provides opportunities to challenge your child and to develop the valuable skills they will take into adulthood.

Easing the transition

The more informed and involved you are in your child's preparation, the more likely it is that the transition will be positive.

From day one your child will experience many changes, each of which will bring questions and new things to do:

  • More subjects and teachers
  • More homework
  • More challenging school work
  • The responsibility of getting to classes in different rooms on time
  • The need to manage themselves, their learning and their equipment
  • Using lockers and carrying books between classes
  • Adapting to different teaching style

With the help of family and school staff, students usually adapt quickly to their new environment.
