On Thursday, 9 March, we were fortunate to have alum from 2003, Annette Trikilis

(Murphy), speak to the Year 12 Psychology classes. Annette was in Geelong for a conference.

and graciously gave up time to bring her knowledge and expertise in the

Psychology/Counselling field to share with the Year 12s. She spoke of how interesting her

work was and how being the owner of the practice allowed her the flexibility to cater to the needs of her three children. Annette also does work for the Sexual Assault unit of the

Darwin police and informed students of the necessity of looking after yourself in sometimes very stressful situations. She told the Year 12s that all psychologists have debriefing sessions and actually see/speak to a therapist themselves! There were many interesting questions from both groups and students were able to get a feel for what life as a psychologist holds if they choose to pursue that line.

Thank you, Annette for your willingness to give back to the College community.

Wednesday March 29 saw an influx of past students gather for a morning tea. Graduating

years spanned from 1971 to 2021! Mr Scott’s VET Hospitality class catered for the event,

preparing club sandwiches and scones. There was also some thirst-quenching mojitos -

mocktail, of course ;-) and homemade lemonade.

Mr Adamou addressed the group, reiterating the constant message of ‘once you’re a part of the North Geelong family, you’re always a part of the family’ The College captains then took the group on a tour of the College. I had to point out many of the changes that they were not aware of, such as the where the gym was prior to the building of the current gym. Most were amazed by the makeover the school has been through over the years. I thank all those who attended (and those who apologised for not being able to make it).

Throughout the year, alumni will be contacted to gauge their willingness to contribute to

various programs at NGSC, such as Year 10 Careers Week, chatting with specific classes,

offering Work Experience where possible, or even offering to sponsor scholarships if you are able.

If you would like to know more, or would like to become a part of the ever-growing alumni

community, please email me (Julie Elkin) at alumni@ngsc.com.au
