Recent Primary School Visits

Over the past 3 weeks, North Geelong Secondary College has had the privilege of 10 Primary Schools from around the Geelong region, visit our College and experience the life of being a secondary student. The students undertook various activities including Science (making a bouncy ball), Food Tech (creating loaded Nachos), Art (designing a mural to take back to their classroom for a visual display) PE and VR Goggles.

The feedback from the Primary Schools has been absolutely amazing and the students really did enjoy their experiences with all of the activities. The photos say it all.

Thankyou to our student helpers over the whole period of the Primary School visits, they showed all of the College values with a big smile on their faces.

Harmony Day

Harmony Day is a government-declared observance day that began in 1999, coinciding with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Here, in Australia and, in particular at North Geelong Secondary College, we are fortunate to embrace so many cultures and it was this message that Srechko Kontelj conveyed to the whole school assembly on March 21st.

Srechko arrived as a migrant, with his family, speaking very little English. He has worked hard to achieve small goals every day, that build up into larger successes. Srechko has undergraduate degrees in Law and Economics, Masters degrees in Law, Commercial Law, Commerce, Business Administration and Arts and in 1999 was awarded Deakin University Law School’s first doctorate in Law. As well as his many professional legal positions, Srechko has been committed to his community, receiving an Order of Australia for service to multiculturalism and local government - he was a mayor of Geelong.

We thank Srechko for giving up his time to address the College on this important day of celebration, reflecting the College value of Diversity.

         International Student Program

Recently, the International Students attended an excursion to The Geelong Yacht Club which is an annual event organised by Study Geelong who the College works closely with for our International Student Program.

All of the International Students had an amazing time and saw some beautiful Australian animals and were lucky enough to not only hold them but experience an up close and personal time too.

From the quiet time of playing large, interacting connect four and chess games, to holding these amazing and loveable Australian animals, this was such a memorable experience to all of the International Students. An experience of a lifetime and something they will never forget and cherish for years to come.

Multicultural Committee News

The Multicultural Committee has concluded the term with its second meeting on Monday 20 March at lunch time (12:45pm  -1:30pm) in the Conference Room. We welcomed newest guests and future members  from Nelson Park School: Sarah Yates (Assistant Principal), Charlotte Fitzgeard (student captain ),Ehto King (student captain) and Andrew Earls (staff member).

Also we welcomed Shantelle Lucas-Baillie (Wirrayaraay), Koorie Engagement Support Officer, Barwon Area as our guest speaker who is at NGSC on Wednesdays and offers students  support with scholarships and other network resources.

Shantelle made food with Indigenous ingredients to share with students. She also spoke about the latest updates on school life.

The meeting was jam packed and had a real buzz with new members on board and a lot to share in a network exchange with delicious refreshments on offer for lunch. Amongst the discussion was the theme for the Multicultural Festival.  We agreed on a competition for students to come up with a theme in collaboration with the Multicultural Diversity Club. Bailey Griffin (Community/Cultural Captain) will organise this on behalf of student leaders via Google Form for Festival theme options.

NGSC’s Multicultural Committee with its diverse network members, greatly values NGSC parents, friends, service providers and the wider school community’s participation.
