Junior School

Term 1 Report

Term one is always jam-packed, and this year has been no different. We have participated in camps, BBQs, Open Days and Night, sporting carnivals, NAPLAN and a wide range of activities to support community building and learning.

A New Beginning for our Year 7s

Beginning secondary school can be exciting and intimidating at the same time. There are new routines to get used to, lockers and lock combinations, new classrooms, classmates and teachers. It is great to see how our year 7s have settled in and are making new friends, navigating new learning environments and conquering those locks! As we progress through the year our focus on routine and rigour will help to set up the learning habits required for success in school.

Year 7 Camp

At the start of March, 50 of our year 7 students spent three days of adventure at the Lady Northcote Recreation Camp. These students participated in a wide range of fun activities while making memories and forming new friendships.

Year 7 Welcome BBQ

Thank you to all of the families that attended our Year 7 Welcome BBQ. It was such a wonderful opportunity for parents and teachers to meet face to face, hear about the opportunities we provide for students at Lyndale, and enjoy a sausage.

Congratulations to our Junior School Captains for 2023

Since the end of 2022, our candidates for Junior School Captain have submitted applications, sat interviews, recorded speeches that were shown to all Junior School students and waited patiently for voting to conclude. All students involved are to be commended for their professionalism and patience throughout this process.

In alphabetical order by surname, the four Junior School Captains for 2023 are:

Lauryn Butler
Ruby Fitzgerald
Liv Hutchins

NAPLAN

In order to better utilise the results of NAPLAN to inform teaching, the testing has been moved to term one. We are proud of the efforts of all students in years 7 and 9 who followed instructions and remained focused throughout the testing. Results will be sent home to families later in the year.

Uniform

Uniform is a way of showing that you belong to and take pride in a community. We are proud to say that most students are consistently wearing the correct uniform items but would also like to send a few reminders as the weather gets colder.

  • Additional layers under the school shirt (e.g. singlets, spencers) are a great way to stay warm but should not be visible.
  • All students must wear black leather shoes that look like the examples in the student diary.
  • Sports uniform can only be worn for sport. If your child has sport in period 1, they may attend dressed in their PE uniform with their regular school uniform in their bag ready to change at recess.
  • The new soft-shell jackets are proving popular and are a great way for students to keep warm.
  • If you are experiencing difficulty getting uniform, please contact your child’s coordinator to see how we can be of assistance.

Open Days and Open Night

This term we welcomed almost 400 grade six students into Lyndale Secondary College to get a taste of high school before making the important choice of where to enrol for year 7 in 2024. Our student volunteers from years 7, 8 and 9 were the most important part of these events and we are incredibly proud and thankful of their efforts. The feedback from the primary school teachers who visited with their classes for Open Day and the parents who visited on Open Night was overwhelmingly positive. The leadership potential amongst this cohort of students is clear and we look forward to seeing how we can use these skills in the coming months.
